Hi, new member and my first post.
I tried a search and no luck on this.
Bought a SCXD a week ago and there are big fluctuations in volume when dialing around the voice knob on channel 2. Volume at 3-4, Gain at 5.
#3 tweed overdriven really jumps in volume from #1 and #2.
Then #4 blackface drops off so much it's hardly audible after the ear ringing of #3 and is a drop off from #1 and #2 also.
Does a big volume jump an another voice, one of the Hot Rod or Metal, don't
remember exactly which one.
Are they all this way?
Kind of annoying, but if that's the way they are, I'll live with it
rather than seeing about returning it for an exchange.
Thought I might have a defective amp.

I've had one for about a year or so and it does the same thing. It's normal as far as I know.

I've noticed the same with mine as well. I'd say it's probably normal.

I appreciate the replies.
I went back and read ALL the reviews on the amp at Harmony Central and there were a couple mentions of the volume variations when changing the voices. Otherwise, it's a nice little amp.

Mine does the same. I think it is normal.

This is the reason why I won't buy one. I really wanted a small modeling amp for late night, low volume playing and the demos I've seen had me wanting the SCXD. I went to GC and tried one, and as soon as I switched voices and the volume jumped I immediately turned it off and walked away.

ThinkFloyd .......

You should investigate the Roland Micro Cube for a low volume modeling amp. I have one and it produces a good tone at low volumes. It also has some built in effects. It only has 6 modles .... Blackface, Vox, Marshall etc but I does a pretty good job for the size and price.

Thanks for the info about the Microcube. I'd like the amp to sound good at low volume, but also be loud enough to jam with another guitar player. My friend and I haven't been able to jam for 3 weeks now because my Blues Junior is in the shop for warranty repair (crappy tube sockets).

I'm hoping to find something used locally because with a family and bills, every time I turn around my money seems to disappear! A simple little solid state practice amp would work, but built-in amp modeling and effects would save me the trouble of using a pedal board.

Hello Suthrnslew,

Firstly welcome to this forum.

Fiddling around with the volume & gain on
the various voices will even out the volume
and actually augument some of them.

Cheers.

I have jammed with another guitar player using the MicroCube along side my SCXD. It worked out fine. I think the MicroCube is 5 Watts. You wouldn't be able to use it for a full band jam however. Although, the MicroCube does has a line out jack so you could run it into the PA

Its not the amp, its the voicing on the amp. High gain = High Volume. Each setting has different amp models with preset gain (before your gain knob). The should sound different and in some cases, way louder... Besides, if its too loud, you're too old.......
