I played through a Deluxe VM amp. I was amazed at how much more headroom it had on the clean channel compared to my HRD.

Borrowed it because I wanted to hear the gain channel in a band situation, but couldn't stop playing the clean, although the gain channel sounded good
too.

Through a '68 Tele and an '08 Am Std, it was crisp and cut through the mix really well. The clean channel is very jangly, but has a nice overall response to all the strings with all the frequencies coming out almost at an even volume.

Hey Mike that's pretty cool. I like the vintage modified series. Especially the champ XDs. I really like them.

I spent a good hour playing through a Deluxe VM when I was shopping for a new amp (I wound up with my HRDx). I thought it sounded good, but that the effects -- the main reason for it's existence -- were lackluster and sterile. It and the HRDx were about the same price and, since I tend to favour simplicity over gadgetry and electronic wizardry, I went for the Hot Rod. No regrets there, but I can definitely see the appeal of the VM.

Mike, It sounds like there may be a new amp in your future.
