I swapped out speaker for HELATONE 30 and that really added to the bottom end and mids. I love the sound of speaker compared to the stock Fender emminence that it came with.
I want a warm nice break up for blues and classic rock sounds.

i usualy play my e.c. strat and that guitar can produce some awesome tones. i found that less bass from the amp and to just add the amount i need with the guitar works real well with that amp. i usually add some bass to the amp when i play a regular strat. the amp is bass heavy due to the tone section(based on a bassman's)and the stock speaker but as we all can see you can find a way around them all . just a little experimenting is all it takes.

Just two questions; Where are you guys measuring 60-75 mv, across a 1ohm resistor? what is the plate voltage ? One more; How long do you want these tubes to last ? ART

There is a test point. My HRDx is at TP30 to ground.

Never figured out how to test plate voltage. Any ideas?
I went to Eurotubes site and there they have instructions for the HRD and BD amps.
I just followed his instructions. Now I do know I am using the GT tubes.

the test point is a combined mv reading for both tubes so... it would be 30 mv per tube from the factory whitch is just about right for the gt 5881wxt(sovtek) that come in the amp. i went back and checked my amp and it was 59.6mv at the test point(probably a little drift). i didn't touch the bias adjust. it sounds great. some 6l6gc tubes may be a little less per tube maybe 24 to 28 mv. the 5881wxt can take a little more voltage. the ruskies used to use the in mig fighter jets they are good and sturdy. some guys don't like the way they sound but for the money you can't beat them. i have never had a problem with the tubes or thier bias setting.

Go to www.eurotubes.com they have instructional videos on how to bias. Do not bias Groove Tubes as high as they suggest they ma red plate. JJ's are fine though. I biased my 6L6's at 82mv on my HRDlx and they sounded great.

Unless you know your plate voltage the MV numbers are meaningless. The tubes should be running at 70% dissipation.

Thanks for the reply, should've looked up the schematics(too lazy). Thought it was the current flow through one tube. My bad! ART

I would consider 70% dissipation to be maximum. I bias mine at 50 to 60% dissipation and they sound fine and last a long time.

70% is actually the recommend norm from most techs I deal with as well as JJ's and others. It all boils down to a matter of taste. I've been running mine at 70% or better and still get long life from my tubes. GT's were the only one's I've ever pushed to failure at 70%. I have tubes in some of my amps that are over 15 years pl and still doing fine. An overbiased tube or one running too cold sounds brittle and sterile to me. But it may work fine for someone else. Like I said, it all depends on your plate voltage.

whitch gts did you have a failure with at 70%? they just match and relabel them. i've noticed they use sovtek, svets, jjs. they only make the 6l6ge tubes heck they proably sub the production of them out to another company too.

6L6's. They actually covered up which brand they used pretty well. They came with the HRDlx. One set I got from GT were actually Sovtek 5881's. Packaged as 6L6's. My Egnater has GT's but you can clearly see the JJ logo on them. That's the problem with GT's you never really know what you're getting. I'll never have another set. Groove Tubes are nothing but overpriced BS IMHO of course. YMMV. I've been playing too long to be jerked around by this crap. I'll stick with JJ's Winged C's and Tung Sols.
