I just bought a used Blues Deluxe MIM and want to change the tubes. Is the preferred method to use red, white, or blue GT's and not worry about the bias?

I would use the whites and still get the bias checked. My USA model likes to run at 30 mA, which is a little cool, but the tubes last a long time. If you run it hotter, it'll sound a little better, but component failure may be in the cards for you. Ask Supro.

Supposedly if you use the same color dot Groove Tubes as is currently in the amp you should not need to worry about bias..

BUT... Amps drift over time and even if you don't change tubes bias may need to be reset occasionally.

I am one of the camp that dumps the Fender brand Groove Tubes as soon as I get hold of an amp. :)
But that is just me. :)

Thanks. I asked the nice man at the music store if I could return the used amp for a new one and for $190 more I got one today. I really like this amp, and it's the about the only one I like that I can afford. I thought I probably paid too much for the used one. Of course, the new one has red GT's, which are very clean, so I'll probably be using your information soon. :D

I have found that bias can drift down on a new set of tubes after a couple months use. I now check bias every month to get the best tone out of my amps. A good bias rite is a great investment also. Safer than probing for you and for amp. On a matched pair that biased within .5ma of each after 2 months they differ by 3 to 4 ma.

A voltage meter? I was told you can use a voltage meter at 200mv setting. But what is a good setting to bias the tubes?

Thanks

Do yourself a favor and if you don't know how to bias an amp, take it to a tech. Don't go by the old white, red GT's or whatever, bias adjustments can drift over time, and GT's aren't matched that closely. GT doesn't manufacture it's own tubes, it just tests and relabels them.

75mv sounds a little hot for a set of 4-7 gt, wouln't that be more of a 1-3 breakup setting for that amp?

The sound now seem more aggressive. I am concerned about life of the tubes.
I am looking into a set of JJ tubes in a blues set up.

i have a BDRI and i don't know what sound you are after but i personaly changed the speaker to a jensen p12n(no bell) and swaped the pre amp tubes for some good ecc83(12ax7wc) and turned the bass way down. now i have a sound that i can use with any guitar i have. the tubes that came in the amp (5881wxt) sound pritty good.
