Is the Frontman 65R loud enough in a band setting or should I go with the 212R ? I need a back-up amp, like the Frontman clean sound and seems to work good with pedals and the very reasonable for the price.

Oh man... before I get started on my 'how tubes are better rant:'

I believe that while 100 watts are louder than 65 watts, it is not by much, because of this principle: a 50 watt amp is only twice as loud as a 5 watt amp. But maybe you could be getting more punch with the 212. By the way, which 'band' setting do you have? Small? Large?

I have a Peavey Bandit 65, which is like the FM65 in that it's a 65-watt solid state amp. I have no experience with the Fender, but if they're remotely similar, you will not have any shortage of volume. That Bandit gets very, very loud; however, sound quality past 3 o'clock on the dial does diminish somewhat. You certainly can't go wrong with the 212 combo either.

I should tell you that a used Bandit 65 can be had for as little as $150. This is excellent because they (a) sound great; (b) are loud as hell; (c) are virtually indestructible; and (d) are cheap!

Hello Hsk120,

I've never played in a band but if I did,
and the 65 or the 212 were my choices.
I would buy the 212.

If you get one how about giving us a photo?
Thanks.

Cheers.
