I have a BJ NOS version with the Jenson speaker. Mostly use a LP. I like the amp, but I find it a tad shrill. When I try to tame it, it gets a little too muddy.

I looked into the Bill m mods...but aren't confident they are the solution. I also don't feel like voiding the warranty. I have replaced the power tubes with JJs. And i have JJs in the preamp tubes.

So my question is whether a speaker replacement would help warm it up a little. And if so, what speaker. I play mostly clean...use pedals for crunch. I play a range of music, from classic rock, blues and jazz.

Cannabis Rex: Hands-down favorite for jazz and smooth, bluesy tone. Warm bass, smooth mids, restrained highs without being dark. 8)

Change the 12AX7 tube in V-1 to a 5751.

And if you are going to change the speaker I recommend a Scumback. http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/index.html

Replaced the stock driver with a Celestion V30 - never looked back. I note Fender are now using them on the new Texas Red BJ and ltd Edition Tweed BJ.

Why not a Weber P12N, like the vintages fender?
