A few days ago, I played MIM Strat through a Fender Roc Pro 1000. Dang, those things can SCREAM  ! No wonder why they call it the ROC Pro 1000! It was at a pawn shop, but they wanted a little too much for it. Hopefully I'll find one cheaper on craigslist or eBay. This thing is definately an upgrade from my current little buzzbox. Anybody else ever played on one of these tanks? Whatdaya think of it?

Rock on (perhaps on a Roc Pro 1000),
Chobey

Don't they sound similar to the "Red Knob" Showman and Twin heads of the 80's? Coco Montoya plays one of those, they are sick!

They were made in the '90s, which is also when some of Fender's "red knob" amplifiers where manufactured. I actually own one now, and you're right, they are sick!

Actually the RK Twin was 88-95 replaced by the "Twin-Amp" and the RK Showman was 87-93.

I owned a Roc-Pro 1000 combo about 12 or 13 years ago (I think) for about a year before switching to a Blues Deville. The RP1000 had a decent tone for SS but tended to fart when pushed. Crappy cheap Eminence Special Design speakers, I hate those things! I suspect the head version was prolly a better choice for that reason.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi, I too have a performer 1000, i got it about a year ago as a 'temporary' amp. It is now my main amp and I love it. I play a few different styles but it seems to deliver on all fronts. I mainly got it for the clean channel but have started to make a few modifications to the drive channel circuit that I hope will make it a more useable three channel amp. As original i felt that the drive A (red channel) was still a bit too driven, i wanted a crunch rythym sound which I now have with a simple mod. I will be playing around with it again soon to get the drive v level balance better.

But, I am interested in the possible speaker change I could make as the speaker does tend to have an effect when turned up. I have a Celestion G12-80 kicking around that I will try but have thought about making a duplicate head cab for the amp and then getting a 2x12 maybe. Any advice from those who have played around with different speakers with this amp would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes it can transform the sounds.
+ I have looked at the circuit diagrams and see that the Performer and Roc Pro appear identical in design.
