What, exactly, does it mean to "slave" amps together, and how is it done?

For instance, would it be possible to use my Pro Junior as a head and run it through the speaker on my HRDx? Would it be a simple matter of running a speaker cable from the speaker out jack on the PJ to the Power Amp In jack on the HRDx?

The slave must match the impedance of the host amp. 8) Mike

Vulkan - NO, do not run a cprd from "speaker out" to "power amp in." "Speaker out" provides a post-power amp signal intended to drive your speaker, and you do NOT want to run that signal into a power amp input, which is intended for a much lower-level signal - you could easily damage BOTH amps that way.
Slaving amps involves taking a line-level output from amp 1, and running it into a line-level input on amp 2, usually such that adjusting control parameters on amp 1 affects the signal going to amp 2. A Pro Jr doesn't have an easy way to be "amp 1" in a slaving situation, because it has no line level output jack.
The hot rod deluxe that you mention, on the other hand, does have a "preamp out," which you could run into a "power amp in" on another amp, and thus use the HRDlx as "amp 1" in a slave situation.
Good luck!

The Super Champ XD has a line out - could this be fed into the amp in on a 8 ohm amp input??

SCXD line out to "power amp in" on another amp is ok.
SCXD line out to guitar input on another amp - I've done several times and not fried anything yet. I use the input 2 where one is available.
Hope this helps.

Thanks - was wondering to take the #2 chn on the SCXD into my Fender Super-Sonic to get added FX such as Trremolo. Saves buying a pedal...

I dont think impedance matters, as fstempleton said, just run it from the preamp out to a power amp in.

When people use slave amps they normally involve using a single preamp section, (Such as a preamp rack) to a power section which gets called the slave, that just boosts the signal.

For instance i have an old slave amp from 1997 called a "Fender satellite" and you take the preamp out on my Deville to the in of the satellite, then out again back to the power amp of my deville, so the deville powers the slave amp.

Running the Champ's line level out into the Super Sonic"s lowest gain instrument input does work. IMHO A safer way to go into the front end of the amp would be to use a direct box(1/4" in & out jacks). The line level signal corresponds to 1 volt peak , the Super's input is expecting to see an insrument level signal of 0.1 volt peak, one tenth the amplitude. The direct box would take care of that mis-match allowing both amps to operate at their full potential. Just an idea. If you find that this is going to be a gigging set up, the ground loop situation would have to be addressed. ART
