Well, here goes: Cyber Twin SE.

Been playing since I was teen, on and off, fully on last 12 years or so. Have had tube amps, now only Cyber Twins. Have all the tones, as good as or better (mostly better) than the tube amps I had (Bassman, Showman, Twin, & Twin Reverb).

The main reasons why i went to the Cyber Twin was the tone and the versatility. I find the Cyber Twin much more to my liking than the tube amps i used to have. The Cyber Twins are great for old-style rock'n'roll/rockabilly/surf. Especially the surf tones, they are incredible. One final thing, the Cyber Twin has that magical tube-amp warmth, and you can dial up as much of that warmth as you need, fully controllable. Tone and control - that's why i think the Cyber Twins are the best amps ever created. As for the cost of the Cyber Twin, it is a professional's amp and it's worth every cent.

Ciao,
Johnny.

I have a CT SE also. I have been at this since about the time The Ventures released "Walk - Don't Run". (old, OLD, geezer for sure  )And I fully agree with everything in Johns post - except the last four words - "it's worth every cent."
That is a matter of personal opinion - and that is his opinion.

My opinion is - The CT SE is a fantastic amp, but Fenders last price increases were WAY out of line, and WAY over the top!
NOTHING is worth that much money, no matter how good it is! Especially in todays economy!

So, I would advise looking at the used market, and don't buy anything new - or nothing at all, until prices come down, and the economy picks up.
( IMO - you gotta have the 1st (prices down) - before you can have the 2nd (economy pick up) ) (even our sorry government admits the economy has to get better before they can hit us with more taxes! :( )

BTW - John didn't say in his post - but he has a great computer program for the Cyber-Twin and Cyber-Twin SE that really opens up the possibilities of the amps. AND gives you instant control of the amp with just the click of a mouse. It's called Cyber Commander SE for my CT SE.

Also - it has proven to be pretty well "bullet proof" as far as I know. The problems I had were NOT related to his software, but mostly to inferior midi drivers.

I have an old M-Audio (used to be something like "MidiMan", I think, when I bought it) midisport UNO, and, I can't afford a replacement right now. BUT - John talked me through the problems - even though it wasn't his product that was at fault.

If you get a Fender Cyber-Twin of any description - you might want to keep the Cyber Commander program in mind for it. And his service after the sale has been the best I have found - bar none. And NO - I don't work for them in any capacity  - just passing on info about a good product.

About 63supros warnings - His wasn't the only one of the Hot Rod series to give trouble. I have, and have had, several Fender amps. Among them a Twin Reverb, a Deluxe Reverb, a Cyber-Twin SE AND a Blues Junior (and others, but ..... anyway)

The Blues Junior has been the only one of them that gave problems. Problem, after problem, after problem. I finally gave it away out of frustration. Mine, IMHO, was a total POS. It is also one of the same series of amps as 63supros Hot Rod Deluxe - the "Hot Rod" series. (and they ain't cheap either)

My other Fender amps have given good service - so far. There are reasons "why" for this - if a person wants to do a bit of 'searching'.

Well, to be accurate - I did have a tube that needed replacement in my CT SE - but, to be fair, it did last a few years - and, with good sound during that time. And I have changed some tubes in my other amps - but I was experimenting at the time - they didn't really need replacement. I had a bit of money back then - not the same as now.

I'm not a big fan of the Cyber-Twin; I found them to be a bit sterile (but that's just my opinion; if it works for you, go for it!)

I like the Blues Jr. (never owned one, but have played through several and like it very much overall) and I love the sound of the Super-Sonics, but I have concerns about their long-term reliability (I have read and heard both good and bad).

As far as a somewhat more affordable vintage amp, try the old Silverface Fenders...a lot of people look down their noses at them, but I have had three different silverface amps and all of them were very worthy...(the Twin Reverb I had just wasn't my "style", but the '72 Bassman Ten and '76 Champ were great...). I'm also a big fan of the master volume/silverface Super Reverb.

The amp I use now--for everything--is a '63 reissue Vibroverb that I bought new in 1992...love that amp!

As far as new (non-Fender) amps, the Vox AC15 is a great-sounding amp and the Egnator Rebel 20 and Rebel 30 are both awesome. Someone noted that a Rebel 30 they played through was "rattle-y", but that might have had a loose component due to a "shipping" issue rather than a problem with the amp. UPS/FedEx/etc. slows down for no bump, hole or canyon!

One other note--I play harp as well as guitar; not all guitar amps are good for harp, and vice-versa. The Vox AC15, the Egnator Rebels (20 and 30) and Blues Jr are all good for both guitar/harp, as are the '63RI Vibroverb, the Bassman Ten and Champ.

Twin Reverb, Hot Rod Deluxe, Hot Rod Deville, Cyber-Twin--none sound good for harp, but I don't like them for guitar very much, either...so maybe I just don't like them at all.

Not a bid CT fan or Blues Jr./Blues Deluxe. But hey whatever work for you is what's important. I did sell my HRDlx and bought a Egnater Rebel 20. It's light years ahead of my HRDlx in terms of tone, versatility and build quality.

I think some of the the Rebel 30 combo's are suffering from tube rattle. It's a tube quality issue not an amp quality issue. It was a huge problem with my HRDlx.

I think tube rattle is a huge problem with several amps.I have read on the fdp website that alot of people been complaining about the princeton reverb reissue about tube rattle. Some of the guys have taken back several amps until they finally found one that doesnt rattle. The unofficial response is there is a problem with the baffle plate.I know Fender doesnt have alot of options in the 40 watt tube range. The one thing everyone agrees on is that its not too heavy and it can cover alot of territory volume wise.Supro, i think if anyone has a right to complain about the HR, its you.I dont know why after the second time Fender didnt offer to replace it.I hope the Egnater works out for you .I know that when i can , i gig with my Bassman ri .Its 45 watts , sounds great and sizewise is a little heavier than the blues deluxe , but still manageable. When i play my Blues Deluxe and Bjr ,i treat it gingerly.

The DRRI is my favorite. You never hear anyone saying "How can I make my DRRI sound better?", or "What can I do to my DRRI to get better tone?" You just can't beat a DRRI. There are louder, more powerful amps out there, and there more complex amps out there with multi-channels, FX loops, etc. But for pure tone, I don't know of any amp to beat it. This is just my opinion of course, and I've not owned a large number of amps....

I think the DRRI is a great amp.I like the tweed tone that Fender has.My go to amp is my 59 Bassman ri and the tone is awesome, but it is a little big for some of the places i play. What i would like is a more affordable version of the 57 deluxe. It would be that smaller tweed that i am looking for.Right now i used the Blues jr to fill the void and it doesnt really cut it.

I'm letting go of my Hot Rod DeVille's, not because their POS 's but because their just way to much for the "Man Cave". I've picked up a Super Champ XD that so far seems to be OK for this old hack. I still have a couple of weeks before I won't be able to take it back so I'm playing it like I stole it to see if any issues arise.

So if anyone is enterested in a HRD check Craigs list, Bakersfield, Ca.
