I mean old enough to have acquired a great amp like your retired twin or has enough money to afford a RI. Not a dig at you personally. Sorry.

From one geezer to another have gigged with a blues jr , hrdx and a blues deluxe with zero problems.I will say that if you get a lemon in the hr series , you are screwed, but it works for some people.Over at thefenderforum there are alot of knowledgable guys who custom build amps. Its kind of like a Lexus mechanic telling you what they think of a Chevy.Tend to be a tad bit critical. Not that there isnt truth to what they say.The HRDX isnt a mini twin.Just the price tag tells me that. The Super Reverb is 700 more than a Hotrod Deville for a reason.

For whatever it's worth, I tested the Egnater Rebel 30 and played for a few minutes through a Rebel 20, and both were okay. I can really only speak of the Rebel 30, and its clean channel wasn't fantastic. It rattled to such a degree, at low volume, with the bass turned up so that I had to turn the bass down to nine o:clcck to get rid of the rattle, and the reverb was just okay. Where that amp really stood out is the dirty channel. It does great dirty in many different tone colors. But most good modern amps that have a lead channel seem to do dirt well. It was the clean that I was amp shopping for. I can get a pedal for overdrive/distortion, or turn a good clean amp up and get overdrive. I personally think that playing with a lot of distortion is over rated. Most guys seem to want to play classic tunes, such as "Sunshine of your Love," much more distorted than the original. So what's my point?

Sooo... I stated elsewhere on the Fender Forum that I was thinking of plunking down some money for either a PRRI or DRRI, and I bought the DRRI. It has a fantastic clean sound and I wish I had bought one years ago instead of fiddling with Line6, G-dec, Blues Deluxe, Peavey this/that or the other thing, etc. Furthermore, I plan on playing clean for a while, regardless as to what I'm trying to play, in hopes of learning how to actually play.

And maybe my lack of appreciation for the Egnater comes from my poor playing, but I'm glad other people like those amps. Other than the clean sound, I also find it problematic the tendency for amp makers to want to make an amp that "does it all," which is what I think Egnater is trying to do with the tube mixing. Cause I don't think good tone comes from the amp, but from the player. The more knobs we fiddle with the less time we spend actually playing. I know there's problems with this view, but it's mine, and I own it.

Hard to say without knowing what you are looking for in an amp and since tone is subjective, but if I have to choose one with cost, tone and weight all considered I choose the '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue hands down.

I'm with you all the way. I love mine. It really starts to sing at volume 4 and a half or so. And not so hard on the ears. Just enough tone shaping capacity with the treble and bass controls, and nice, very subtle bright boost with the vibrato channel. Who could ask for more?

Why does everyone always say the deluxe's breakdown, yet i havent heard someone say that their deville's broken... odd

However you could go hot rod deville (I prefer the 212 rather then the 410, theres more low end), lots of volume, and if you dont go deaf from it first, it'll probably put out your back.

Either that or go try out the new diezel Schmidt, they sound pretty good and they're damn nice for funk, blues and some heavier stuff.

Either that or the new blackstar one series, they look very promising

Also i know iver gone off topic but theres a bigger world then fender!
(Dont lynch me please >.<)

I forgot to add Mesa Boogie, they're good too. The stiletto, maverik or Mark series (IV, V) are all good.

I play a 4x10 blues deville it can do clean very very well
and can get down dirty or just a little crunch if need be
depending on tone knobs and volume settings

how clean you ask
clean enough to play in church with no eyebrow raising
from the more traditional patrons of the church

Well, here goes: Cyber Twin SE.

Been playing since I was teen, on and off, fully on last 12 years or so. Have had tube amps, now only Cyber Twins. Have all the tones, as good as or better (mostly better) than the tube amps I had (Bassman, Showman, Twin, & Twin Reverb).

The main reasons why i went to the Cyber Twin was the tone and the versatility. I find the Cyber Twin much more to my liking than the tube amps i used to have. The Cyber Twins are great for old-style rock'n'roll/rockabilly/surf. Especially the surf tones, they are incredible. One final thing, the Cyber Twin has that magical tube-amp warmth, and you can dial up as much of that warmth as you need, fully controllable. Tone and control - that's why i think the Cyber Twins are the best amps ever created. As for the cost of the Cyber Twin, it is a professional's amp and it's worth every cent.

Ciao,
Johnny.
