Best is subjective i guess. If i knew what tone you are after or what style of music you play maybe we could help you more.If you have a spider amp and a mim strat i will guess you arent after THE top of the line custom shop amp for over 3 grand.Tell us more about price range, etc and we can point you in the right direction.

I think the answer to your question depends on the style of music you play and how fat your wallet is. If you play country, rock, blues or jazz, I would recommend a Blackface amp, such as a 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue, or 65 Twin Reverb Reissue. For really heavy music, I think the Super Sonic would be perfect, but it's a bit loud for practicing at home, unless you live some distance from your neighbors. All the previously mentioned amps will run you a bit more than average, but I think they are far above average in performance.

Some people really like the Hot Rod series of amps, which cost a bit less, but if you read the forum postings, you'll discover that some people don't like them, passionately.

I would highly recommend going to a music store and trying several amps out. Good luck.

The amps are all different and sometimes similar. Price may be a factor. I have a Vibro King Custom that I like better than anything else for most of the things I play. I dont think you could find a better sounding amp, but sometimes it is just too big and too loud, so for some things I like my Hot Rod Deluxe, or my Blues Junior. Big differences in prices, but even the most expensive amp might not always have the exact tone you are looking for in a given application.

I am now jealous of your Vibro King. I want one.

Back on topic now. Lots of good advice here. The best thing I can suggest is determine, before anything else, about how much power you need. If you're looking for 40 watts, a Blues Junior or a DRRI won't do it for you; if you desire 20 watts, the aforementioned amps will be right up your alley. Also consider how much you're willing to spend. The general wisdom with gear is buy the best you can afford. Fender makes good stuff -- even the much-maligned Hot Rod amps are, in my humblest of opinions, fine pieces of gear.

Go to the store, play loads of amps, and see for yourself mate!

If you plan to gig hard, I wouldn't suggest the HRD series. I know, I just sold mine. I'd go DRRI, or a Super Reverb RI. These are fine amps right out of the box. Real classic Fender tone great reverb. With the HRD series, the first thing you need to do usually is change the tubes to tame the drive channels, then you'll probably replace the speaker because it sounds farty, then the repairs start. The reverb on the HRD series is horrible too. If you don't believe me check any amp forum.

Given your preference of music, if it were me, I'd definitely go Blackface. Deluxe Reverb if you can live with 22 watts, Super Reverb if you need more power. But you should definitely go to a music store and play several amps for a while. Your ear is the one to make the choice. Good luck.

I however have a fantastic HRDeVille. I love the reverb on it, have gigged with it heavily for 6 years and have only ever had to change the tubes due to preference, NOT failure.
Its never failed on me and nor do I think it ever will. The 410 speakers have always been fantastic also.

63Supro had his Deluxe fail on him 3 times, I understand thats why he's so bitter about it, no one wants that but thousands upon thousands of others use this series every day in gigging situations, sometimes even bigger (Guns N' Roses, E Street Band and many more).

Its a fine amp and as long as you dont buy 63's old one you should be fine.

8)

Well, that's not entirely true. 63Supro's "bitterness" is because he got the one lemon in a fine line of amps. It's because the amp is fatally flawed in its design... that's why hundreds and hundreds of them fail (and if you don't believe me, visit www.thefenderforum.com and search on Hot Rod... many web searchers looking for info on how to fix their Hot Rod series amps end up directed to the experts at that forum, and the tales told there read like an H.P. Lovecraft anthology).

Stay away from them completely and you'll be better. The tube change is usually to improve the amp. Almost everyone I know changes them early on. . Six years is nothing. My Twins been going for over 30 years! I'm the original owner too. It was only in for a cap job as preventative maintenance. Just look on this forum, people sat I love my HRD..... but it makes this sound or that doesn't work or I'm having this problem, what tubes do I need, what's the best speaker, what's up with the volume control. CC i'm glad you like your amp and it's been reliable., you may just be lucky though.

My point is that hundreds of them survive too and not everyone here is old or made of money.

Who is made of money? If I was made of money I would have had an amp built for me.
