Ive had an old peavey classic 30 for about five years and it was time to change the tubes. So I put some ruby tube EL84s which are really JJs with ruby stuck on en. It had sovteks in it before. The JJs are a lot smoother, warmer. Just a better tube. I also changed the pre amp tubes from electro EH and one sovetek LPS for the faze , too sovtek WC in all spots. I really like the sound Im getting frome this thing. Ive always liked the amp but it did sound a little grainy and harsh. It was a good buy . You might give JJ a try , they didnt cost that much.

Yup, I love JJ tubes. I buy mine from eurotubes.com, but there's several other sites you can get them through too. Good solid tubes, gives those expensive $@! NOS tubes a run for their money ^^

+1 on Eurotubes. I don't think Ruby's are JJ's. It's JJ/Tesla.

Rubys are fine tubes too. JJ's fixed the drive more drive channels on my HRDlx. Shameit didn't fix the other issues on the HRD. My Egnater is loaded with 6V6 and El84 JJ's. It's got incredible tone.

I tried ruby 12ax7's after the first groove tube went and I did not like them at all.

Next switch was to JJ's and jan Philips, they are the ones I stuck with.

Or tungsol but the are pricey here.

Tone is all subjective. It's fun to try stuff out though. JJ's seem a little darker and subdued. I guess more mellow. It also depends on you guitars too.

I found the Ruby 6l6 to be a little bright and that worked fine in the Deluxe , its a bark sounding amp any way, To me it sounds dark. Ive got some Ruby EL34s in a Vox head. Im not liking them much. Gona try some JJ tubes for that one soon.
