Gah all these myths are just lies for excuses why tubes break.

No, the oil on your skin wont mess up you valve, unless you sweat some sort of hyperbolic acid, that has the power to intensify heat by 1000.

theres lots of stuff like that, that isnt true, like the one that says you should let the valves in your amp cool down before you move it.

Its just not true.

Look at some more stuff here: http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/tubes.html

Yeah it's a sad state of affairs, when a trusted brand breaks down. Just had a guys '65 Bandmaster on the bench tonight, after a filter recap(& bias cap) and bed-in job, I had suggested he get GT-6l6-Ge's. Sadly, one was DOA. The older ones were great, that's why I recomended them. Guess we'll try some matched JJ's( he can't afford NOS). What a shame! ART

lol just to let you guys know, this isn't some kind of weird myth or wive's tale i heard. it's merely a question that formed in my ever-rambling brain. i replaced a headlamp a couple weeks back, lost it already, and figured i probably touched the glass. henceforth i wondered..."hmm, tubes too?" and then here i came. that's all. just a silly question. thought you'd appreciate that FYI

thanks for all the insight

Here's also something to consider. Companies print their logos and names and stuff ON the glass. If skin oil has an effect, wouldn't the ink have one as well? I think not.

Agree never had a tube go from handling it and I started fiddling with them in the 60's

However the tubes may do some hurt to you fingers if you try to yank them while hot

"Hyperbolic Acid"! I guess that would be acid that is extremely exaggerated? I love it!
