Sometimes it is. Stuff is made like garbage today. Washers, dryers tv's you name it. When our old dryer died, it took 2 big guys to take it out and they had a hard time, and just one to bring in the new one. I had one of the original VCR's for close to 15 years, the new one 3 years and it was landfill. It's not technology, it's profits and lack of pride to make anything that lasts.

See how many HRDlx amps will be around in 20,30 or 40 years. SRV played vintage amps. They were older than he was when he got them. They got to be that old because they were made well with quality components when they were first made. Hendrix just abused his stuff just like Clapton and Townsend in those days.

I concede... You've made your point well, and perhaps my previous analogy was flawed. But I feel like there's a "cult of the old," whether it be guitars or amps or effects, that might be a distraction from the genuine pursuit of musicianship. But whatever flaws there are in consumer goods are the fault, not only of manufacturers, but also consumers who buy cheap and want cheap. If people want good gizmos they'll have to pay more for them. Ten years ago there were two hundred dollar washing machines. Today, there are still two hundred dollar washing machines. Can we expect them to be of the same quality? I don't think so. How much was a forty watt Fender amp in 1965? If the price hasn't followed inflation should the quality be there as well? We all can have the best equipment available, if we pay the money necessary to buy quality. But we tend to buy cheap, but demand the highest quality possible. Something just doesn't add up. And what's worse, I think many of us waste thousands on junk we really don't even want.
