I discovered this on Saturday on musiciansfriend.com. It's a new Fender hybrid amp -- tubes and DSP. It ships next week (10/15/07) according to the site. Has anyone heard anything about this? The MF link is:

Sweet amp! Note the class-A operation, distinct from the Super Champ.

That's cool! It splits the difference between the Champ600 and the Blues Junior. It's the kind of low-power tube stuff I was talking about in the "what would you tell Fender" post or whatever it's called over in the main forum. Since I'm getting some double pane windows in the area I play to contain my sound better, and I'm a guy who likes a tone and don't get into modeling, I'm glad I stepped up to the 15 watt Blues Junior. It does low loudness thick blues, and it also can get loud.

The Superchamp looks cool too. It's 15 watts, and $100 less than I paid a couple of weeks ago for a Blues Junior, with modeling my Blues Junior doesn't have. I love my Blues Junior. It's exactly what I wanted. I searched all over for months to find the right amp. I have zero buyer's remorse about it and I could take it back to GC and I won't. Nothing else I could find would give me what I wanted like the Blues Junior. Here's the deal though: These super champs may be huge with the modeling set, and I'll admit they're younger than me by a lot. Fender's real competition is Fender itself.

Just checked out the specs on the Super Champ -- Two channels (footswitchable), and has more power and a bigger speaker than the Vibro Champ. Ideally, I'd like to be able to compare them side by side.

Once you experience the warm, blooming sonic bliss of 6V6 tubes, there's no going back to those boring, thin old EL84s!

These are hybrids, listed as solid state. They're selling at lower price points than the all-tube Hot Rod series including the Blues Junior, especially now that the Blues Junior has increased to $450. Pure tube with no circuit card gets even more expensive as you move into the Pro Tubes and the Custom Shop stuff. What Fender's doing is making sense. They've got a range from pure solid state with no modeling, to solid state with modeling, to solid state modeling with tube output, to pure tube with circuit cards, to pure tube with powered knobs for modeling, to pure Pro Tube and Custom Shop etc. I like it. Lots of choices with tube tone, not pure okay like even Hot Rods like my Blues Junior is more pure but still has some solid state parts. Kudos to Fender. More choices and a lot of cool stuff that should have tone at low loudness for those of us who don't play Shea Stadium. For me, I'll stay with my Blues Junior, which is just an awesome little amp.

If the 12AX7 is used as a phase inverter, then the amp is in fact a true hybrid. If it's in the gain stage, then I'd call it a modified hybrid as it's then ganging with gain from the SS DSP circuit. But anyway you slice it, it's interesting as ****!

Most folks don't remember them, but the old hybrid Music Man amps were highly regarded. They graced many a stage and still do today. And the cheapest DSP/modeling/efx/Tube amp combo out there now is the new Line6 series starting at $699! Now that wouldn't be that significant if both these new Fenders were bedroom/recording amps, but the SCXD is truly giggable at $299!!! Sure you may have to add a cab or run the line out into your PA, but Fender has provided you those options by thoughtfully including the outputs for both.

Somewhere Leo is smiling. Great tone and features for the workingman. Plus classic BF (bye bye Scarface!) cosmetics. The Fender-centric blues Mafia won't make fun of me when I show up at jams with this baby. And when I pop the hood and show em twin 6V6s...buddy gonna shut yooooou down!

As some of you suspected, the V-C isn't available today despite some of the online retailers proclaiming Oct 15th as the day of its arrival. At least the person I talked to at Musician's Friend could neither confirm or deny that the warehouse received them. She did say she received quite a few calls asking about it.

I check the sites everyday and the date continues to creep. I can't wait until November!

IF they come in first of all the new cheap tubesteaks, they got my money.

Musician's Friend has pushed out delivery by 10 days so far. I thought these guys had some pull in the industry.

Fender ships em when they ship em, and they go out in all directions at once. Since they say Nov at this late date, I suspect they really will be showing up in stores by the end of the month.
