Hello Jeffo46,

I owned a frontman 25 for about a decade,
one nice solid state amp. It never broke and was
a great sounding amp. I loaned it to a pal a little over
a year ago, ------I'm thinkin it's not comming back.

About a month ago I went out looking for a replacement
ended up with a vibro champ xd. I lacks the sterility of the
frontman but the other bells and whistles are keeping me entertained.

Have fun with that 25.

Cheers.

The Frontman 25R has got to be the best $100 amp out there. I've had one a little over a year and it still sounds great. Excellent for blues. Plently of volume but it would probably benefit from a speaker upgrade, still a very nice amp out of the box.

Hey Mr. Bill,
Sorry to hear that you never got your Frontman 25 back. That's one thing I never do, is lend any of my gear out to anyone, no matter who it is. I'm glad to hear though about your new Champ. I've heard nothing but good things about those amps and I hope you're enjoying it as much as I'm enjoying my new Frontman 25.

I once lent a guitar and an amp 2X12 when I was in my teens. Neither came back......and the person I lent it to, also disappeared. I learned my lesson and don't lend that type of stuff out anymore.

I have the 25R amp.......had it for about five years. It sounds great, and no problems.

The 25R is an incredible value. Great clean channel, decent reverb, albiet kinda crappy dirty channel, but who cares. I grabbed an Ibanez tube screamer to deal with that. While it can get loud, it is no match for a session with drums. Other than that, it's fantastic. Enjoy!

Maybe someone can help me with this 25R. I agree with Jonny, the clean channel is fine, it's a good value. I'm a little confused with the gain channel. By the time you get to level 1.5 to 2, the volume is Blasting beyond a reasonable level, even with the Strat's volume on 2, so there is not much usable variation on this channel (I returned the Frontman 15G for this reason). And I agree, it's not that nice rich, warm distortion for classic rock, it's more of the brash, annoying type. By contrast, I had a small Gorilla 10 watt amplifier years ago. Wow! that beauty could produce any range of sounds you could ask for.

So, is this operator error, or just a matter of you get what you pay for?? Are effects the answer, or is the answer just to wake up and buy a better amp?

When I was teaching at a local music store they had Fender Frontman's in the practice rooms. From what I can remember they were really good sounding amps. I never play clean and I recall the distortion on those were strong. I liked them.

I just bought a Frontman 25r last weekend, I thought I would try it out for a couple of days. I am quite impressed with the sound, cleans are great and I use pedals for distortion, chorus and delay. It is more than loud enough for practicing on your own. Good value for the price, I compared it to Line 6, Vox, Roland and the clean could not be beat. Since I have pedals I was not worried about all those effects that some of those amps have.

I will keep this as a practice amp and am planning on selling my HRD (not getting the clean sound I want) and buying a used 65 Twin Reverb for gigs. I finally tried one and it sounded really good and has the clean sound I was looking for (and is worth the extra weight !).
