Personally if you are looking for the classic Fender clean then i would check out the Deluxe Reverb. Its your classic blackface tone with tube driveb reverb and only 22 watts. It is well known for being a small club amp.You can mic it for larger venues.Easier on the back than a deville and nicer tones too.

Hey whats your opinion on The Fender Deluxe Reverb for Dire Straits tone?

But you guys act as if the HR series is the only dog in town, when there are issues with some of the other amps. The Princeton reverb ri has a rattle in alot of their amps and the g-dec has a problem with the data wheel. If you go over to the FDP and look at the topics for modern amps, you have togo back a long ways to find people complaining about problems with the hrdx. Here its a daily thing, almost an obsession.I dont go running down the g-dec because my data wheel broke.I get it fixed and move on.

o last question. I hope you can answer. Is the 65 Deluxe reverb good at taking pedals? pretty much just distortion pedals.

I never ran down the GDec. Fender Replaced mine and I upgraded it to a GDec 30. I just used it last night to practice some new stuff we're doing. I still think the Line 6 Jam would have been a better choice for Me because I mostly use live jam tracks but the GDec has a good feature set and it's fun. Could it be improved? Sure, just make the preset adjustments easier to turn off.

Thing is, I don't rely on the GDec, I relied on the HRDlx and it didn't deliver. A lot of people say it saouds like $@!. With a tube change it's a good sounding amp. Not great but good. I never complained about the sound. For probably less than $100 they could make it a great sounding amp. People complain because it still has problems that were never addressed. I know a lot of people like me who got it fixed and shoved it in a closet, and bought a Vibro Champ or that little 5 watt Epi or Blackheart. I think the Marshall Haze will put a hurtin on things as well as the Class 5 as long as they prove reliable.

It seems that the general consensus is yes, the DRRI takes pedals well. You might want to try different pedals out with it because there may be that one or two, or one or two types of pedals that the DRRI just doesn't like. But again, the general consensus...

They work well with it if the volumes cranked a bit to get natural overdrive, but when its clean sounding, the pedals make your amp sound completely different to when your was playing it clean.
Again, I'd deffinetly advise the Blues Junior for pedals. I wasn't sure if it would work well with it, and I got it and my pedals sound excellent with it.

That, sir, is considered offensive to my kind!

Why get a Hot Rod when you can get a Vox AC15? How about that?

It is my understanding that Fender ironed out some of their reliability issues.Looking at Justins website , the resistors that were responsible for some of the problems (like random channel switching have been addressed. The reverb is a little better than it used to be .I know the Blues Jr had some improvements done to it as well .I know the tone is improved and also the reverb is better. Its unfortunate that yours was unreliable , but is also unfortunate that you kept it in the closet after you got it repaired too.Not really sure i can blame you , but we will never know if it ended up being a good amp.

budglo, you should stop the "we don't know if the problems are widespread," "I'm pretty sure they fixed those problems," (that weren't so widespread,so why would they fix them?) "we'll never know if your amp turned out to be a good one after being repaired or not," bit.

The Hot Rod Deluxe and DeVille are prone to failure. The problem is widespread. It is documented, and you can point to the design flaws that make it happen over and over again.

So there's no gee-whillikers shoulder shrugging to be done here. We know.

The third time wasn't the charm it was banished to the closet. Next time it breaks I hope it's still under warranty for the new guy. The Egnater is light years ahead of the HDRlx in tone, design and build quality. Here's a new one from today.

Unfortunately it never ends. :? I'm so relieved I dumped mine. :D

Slapchop , if you are gonna quote me, i would appreciate if you quote me exactly and dont change the words i used.I didnt say:" i am pretty sure they fixed those problems".I said "It is my understanding that Fender ironed out some of their relability issues."I didnt say all or most , but some.I also never said the HRs werent prone to problems, that is well documented. I disagree that people should steer away from them altogether.Nuff said.

Why buy something with that kind of reputation? If I was aware of it's rep I would have kept my money and bought something else. There's no excuse. If the HRDlx cost 300 bucks, I could see it. It's not really inexpensive amp. It's one of their best selling amp of all time. I would think the Deluxe reverb would be. It's been around way longer. Could it be just more hype from the Fender camp?
