.... and BTW;

If anyone is interested .... and IF anyone would take the time to read some of those articles .....

Most sounded complimentary about the Rebel, in my way of thinking.
Search for, and read them, for yourself.

Just curious, what do you consider a fair price?

Well , Im one who reeally likes the HTRD amps . I have two of them , Whin my old one gives out,I think I will send it off to torresengineering and have a point to point built for me > it looks cool and I like the specs he offers. I really like the size of HTRDLX . But its like the old ford truck my dad drove whin I was a kid . He said whin it would not run any more he would get a new one. It never stopped. He finaly broke down and got a new one anyway . I keep waiting for my HTRDLX to stop working . No luck yet . I had a red knob twin ,It was not a good amp for me . In the shop all the time. Bad AMP . and 85 pounds of it. Every one finds out what works for them. I really try not to judge other folks gear . Amps,Strings, guitars, If they get the sound thet want , good for them, Jimmy page has used some cheap stuff over the years. Butt thats jimmy page right. No that you and me. I dont rule anything out of my tool box. There are times I like my VOX ac 100. Not all the time. VERY loud. But sounds awsome with a LP. MY point is.Every one has what works for then. I saw Steve Miller a while back and he was useing DR Z amps sounded fine . I might try one > He is a very under rated guitar player. He can play man , He can play. Hay every one go and have good day, K

In addition to the rep of HRDlx amps, there are a couple of other things you should know:

1. Serious amp builders - guys I know who have made hundreds of amps from scratch - are of the opinion that Dan Torres is a blowhard who does not possess the skills he pretends to. You wanna buy from him, fine, but many real experts would advise against it.... I'd do a thorough Net search before sending him an amp or money.

2. Dr. Z amps are well-known and highly respected boutique amplifiers, so far out of the league of a Fender that there is no comparison, and they're used by a long list of famous players.

Dan Torres has a pretty foul reputation. I'd agree, stay away. Most serious amp builders can't stand him and won't deal with him. I'd build my own from either Mission amps or Weber Amps.

I only read the replies on the first page, so I'm not sure (but almost certain :D ) this is old news.

Get a Fender Blues Junior and crank it right up for a gig. It can also easily be used at home. I was suprised at how low I could have it and still have a 'full tone'. I was also very suprised at how loud it could go.

If you want something more expensive, maybe a Deluxe Reverb, but for my little experience with a blues junior, I think I'd actually pick that still and its about £300 cheaper. (I think?)

That depends on a few things. How loud is your band? Do you play soft pop or searing blues-rock? Are you planning on using a PA system? If so, then amp power becomes moot: a good PA can make a 5-watt Champ sound gargantuan. If not, you'll be glad to have the power. The DeVille can keep up with all but the wildest (read: Keith Moon) drummers. Considering that 40 to 60 watts is standard for a gigging rig, you should be fine. You may have to turn it down more than you'd like, but that's SOP for guitar players...

For small venues i think that would be too loud .Its 60 tube watts with 4-10s.Thats alot of watts moving alot of air.One of the thing about the hotrod and blues series of amps is the volume goes from not loud enough to too loud with nothing in between due to the way the volume pot is designed.You will be fighting with the volume knob all night long.Trust me.You want an amp you can push a little.My 59 bassman and super reverb dont come to life until i turn them up to 4.They are damn loud at that point and they are only 45 watts.I would recommend 25 watts and lower .
