Actually the blues jr is from the same hotrod line as the pro jr.Biggest differences are the cabinet size , speaker size and the blues jr has reverb, an eq , a fat switch and a master control.Obviously the circuits are different ...

I was just addressing the misconception that the Blues Jr. and Pro Jr. are two different versions of the same amp: as you noticed, even the gain structure is very different. The Pro Jr. doesn't sound half bad. The Blues Jr. sounds way more than half bad. Like, all bad, IMO.

bbrodie, you too??! These here Rebels are a gas, are they not? :)

I would say the opposite.I actually like the tone of the blues jr for a small amp.I played the pro jr and found the lack of headroom to be not what i was looking for.For every person who loves the pro jr , you will find another who loves the blues jr.Just a matter of taste and opinion really.

Thanks for the sound samples SlapChop, they just pushed me over the Egnater edge and I couldn't be happier.
Incredible work by the way.

Glad to be of service. You are too kind, BTW.

That Egnator Rebel 20 is one great amp in all aspects. I agree about the Pro Jr. It is a great amp....I have two of them, and the Blues Jr. just doesn't sound as good.

Also, the Classci 30 mentioned is a good choice. I think the overdrive on that amp is one of the best out there....even at low volume. So the C30, while it doesn't have any kind of scaling or attenuation for it's 30 watts, is a good choice for clubs and home.

Still....right now...the Rebel 20 is the top of the game with it's tone and contemporary power scaling feature plus tube mixing.

Hey 63Supro......glad you gave up the ghost on the Hrdlx. :-)

Me too! :D That Egnater gives me everything I ever wanted in an amp.

I'll still continue to share my experiences with the HRDlx though. It's a real shame they don't make an upgraded version of the HRDlx addressing all the issues. It would be worth the extra cash to have a good sounding AND reliable amp. White knobs and a different colored Tolex and a Jenson speaker don't make it more reliable.

I guess I'll be the odd guy out here and say yes. They're Very loud indeed, but they can be controlled and sound good at lower levels.

I replaced the 6L6's with a set of 6V6's which pretty much makes it like a 30 watt amp and also changes the tone (for the better IMO). I use a 12AD7 in V2; Half 12AX7 and half 12AU7. Makes the 2nd channel usable up to about 4 or 5. Still not great for a distortion channel, but fine for a nice OD.

Lastly I used the 2nd input, which again helps reduce volume.

Does is have allot more power than needed at home? But, the big open sound of the 4X10's produce a sound-stage a single 10 or 12 can't match.

Overkill? Maybe, but I like it.

......................

After reading so much good (great?) comments about this amp - and hearing that great sound sample of it - I started searching for any info I could find on it.

One thing that I was really surprised to find out was it is a pcb construction amp. At the price they ask for a little no frills 20 watter head - I really expected it to be wired up like the older amps were.

Another thing, maybe negative, is the tube sockets being mounted to the pcb.

Only time will tell how this works out.

I don't remember finding any info about any warranty, or length of warranty either.

I know that pcb construction isn't necessarily bad. (my CT SE is pcb construction - and it's still fine after all these years) But pcb construction has gotten a bad reputation because of some of the "problem amps" using it.

If the circuit board is thick enough to not flex, and mounted at enough points, and solidly enough, to stabilize it to the max - they can be very reliable.

But for that high of a price for just a head - with no speaker - I think I'll wait a few years to see how they hold up. (I watched and waited about the CT until Fender fixed some things and released the CT SE)

If you remember when the Hot Rod Deluxe came out - there was a lot of hype and hoopla along with it too. And with people giving then rave reviews. Same with the Blues Junior. (which is a reason why I bought the one I had)

Then, after some use, the problems started surfacing.

So, I'll have to wait - at that price. If they prove reliable - and the price doesn't go up - maybe later.

I hope it continues to be "THE" amp for you. From your posts, it sounds like you had too much trouble already from that HRDlx you had. You deserve a good amp. :) (seems like Fender could have helped - but anyway ....... )

And GOOD LUCK :!:

If you want to get a tube amp, but worry about the output, just get one of these: http://www.legendarytones.com/thdhotplate.html

So the Egnater amps have thier tube sockets mounted directly on the board? Isnt that one of the things that people slam about the HotRod series because the heat from the tubes heat the board up and causing problems? Interesting.Time will tell if it tends to be a problem or not.

I did some searching, using the "Dogpile" search page, which is a combination of several search engines. And also just Google by itself.

I found that information in some of the reviews done by some magazines, if I remember correctly.

The one I remember best had a picture of the circuit board that they had taken out of the chassis and photographed. You could see for yourself what it was. The write ups were pretty good too.

Anyone can use the link to "Dogpile" in my first paragraph, type in Egnater - I think I also did a search for Egnater Rebel - and start checking the results.

Like I said - I was REALLY surprised to see that considering the price of the head.

I quit looking after that - so I never found any info about a warranty. But then, a warranty is only as good as the people are in the company that makes a product. And, it's only becomes important WHEN you need it. (it used to be "if" you needed it) In many cases, it's a worthless, or ALMOST worthless, piece of paper anyway. Egnater is new - so, time and - reports - will tell on that too - like it has with other  amp manufacturers.

IMHO - The Egnater products are too new and still in the "Hype" stage.

There are a quite a few differences. First a well designed PCB amp will last for many, many years, think Mesa Boogie. Tons of boutique amps are PCB built too. It's all in the design. Nothing wrong with tube sockets mounted to boards as long as it's done properly. As is the Egnater. There is no flexing of the PCB. The PCB's are thick, with wide traces. The tubes also face up and are vented out of the cabinet on the top and rear so the pcb's get no heat from the tubes like the HRDlx. Some of the components have their ond heat sinks. The tubes appear to be mounted to their own board too, unlike the HDRlx. The boards are also supported and use quality components. The spade connectors and wire doesn't look like it came from Radio Shack like the HRDlx.

As far as features, It's far from bare bones. How many Fender amps let you dial variably from 6v6 power tubes to EL84's and dial it down from 1 to 20 watts? It comes with JJ tubes and the matching cabinet has a custom voiced Celestion speaker and not a farty sounding bottom of the line Eminence. Bright and tight switches. It also has a 3 year warranty.

You get what you pay for. The price for this amp is actually great compared to others. What do you pay for a HRDlx so-called limited edition? It's the same HRDlx amp but with white knobs, a different speaker and different colored Tolex.

The build quality is outstanding. The cabinets are birch not particle board like the HRDlx. I'd rather have 1 or 2 watts of pure tonal nirvana than 40 watts of icepick in the forehead. The first thing I had to do with my HRDlx was change the tubes, the second thing I had to do a month and a half later was get it repaired. Then again, then again, then I sold it.

Just visit the Egnater site. I emailed questions before I bought the amp and Bruce Egnater responded the same day!

Just go to Egnaters site and get the full scoop on this wonderful amp.
Bruce Egnater has been around as a boutique amp designer/builder for a long, long time. He even had classes on amp building.
