Depends on you definition of clean. Is it Twin clean? No.

The DRRI will not approach eardrum-shattering volumes while remaining clean. It's not particularly powerful by modern standards, although it's 22 watts should let you play clean, or perhaps clean with a bit of an edge, with a drummer. That's an estimate though: your only solution is to go try one. Crank it up as loud as you need, and see what happens.

It's too loud, but – like you – the 'problem' I found was getting a smaller amp with a 12" speaker and a cab big enough to make best use of that speaker.

Although only for home use (I have a detached house and no neighbors) I ended up with a Deluxe VM. Sounds fine at low volumes, but I might add a THD Hotplate attenuator. Has reverb, chorus and delay... all good.

Have you tried the new Fender Twin-amp??? it interests me since it has a 25 watt setting. I don't care bout its distortion, only its clean. And i love Dire Straits clean.

I'd take a SF Twin to any newer production model any day. The way the preamp tubes are sunk into the chassis on the RI, it looks like they're pcb mounted. I hope the boards are better than the boards in the Hot Rod series. I'm not impressed with GT's either. I rarely take my Twin out anymore. I can do most of what I do with my Egnater Rebel. It's plenty loud enough for medium sized clubs and anything larger I'll just mic it or use a bigger cabinet. My back and groin thank me.

Devilles have great tone but, they only go from loud, to louder, its no good having one unless you get an attunator, or play alot of big gigs.

This is what I would suggest you do. It sounds like you are going to play some diverse gig's.

There is nothing worse than having an amp that simply will not give you the headroom (volume level) you need when required.

I would go with the Fender Blues Deville or HRD, stick an attenuator on it and then at least you will have peace of mind in knowing that if you need more level you've got.

The only thing i've found annoying with my HRD 410 is the god damn weight of it.

It's still worth lugging around though. lol.

My two cents worth. I definitely wanted a Twin Amp for the 25-100 watt feature, and the clean. A Fulldrive 2 for OD. The only problem was the cost. (and weight) Otherwise, what could be better? It covers it all. One can turn down the guitar volume as well. :)
