Can you get fairly loud clean sound on a Frontman 212R ? Would the clean be close to the clean on a HRD ?

I haven't played one, but it's a solid-state amp so I reckon that you'll be able to dime the channel and still have pristine cleans. Only tube amps "break up"; overdriving transistors will lead -- quite quickly, in fact -- to amplifier repairs.

lol dude its a 100 watt 2x12...its gonna get extremely loud. The Devil himself will be complaining of the noise. it might break up a little as you climb in volume, but if anything, that'd probably be the sound of transistors going berserk. but i doubt you will ever reach such volumes while you have any care for your hearing. the FM is solid state and will stay clean, no natural overdrive, especially compared to HRD.

Yes, it will stay clean turned up. It's a very loud amp, though, so I can't imagine too many situations where you'll need to turn it up all the way.

As far as the tone....the clean tone isn't too bad. Not as good as a tube amp like the HRD series but not all that bad for a solid state. The overdrive channel though, just doesn't sound that good. If you get this amp, you may want to get a seperate overdrive pedal or maybe an eq pedal.

For the price of this amp new, your best bet is probably to check out craigslist for a used tube amplifier. You'll probably be happier in the long run...
