hi,

took my hrdlx back to get fixed, as the drive channels wouldnt work.

but the guitar shop tried it and they say it works fine.

just wondering why the drive channel would not work for ages and then work suddenly?? what would cause it?

i want to get refund, but they saying item is in perfect working order, so i cant! theyve sent it back to fender anyway.....

it also has what i think to be tube rattle only on certain notes and when cranked up.
the tech dismissed this as a norm for combos,

what i want to know is if that is classed as a fault????
then i have more chance of getting a full refund.
as he dissmissed it to me on the phone, im sure he hasnt told fender about it, so under laws in the uk, if i find that fault when i get it back, i have the right refuse a 2nd repair and get a full refund.
so was wondering if it is classed as a fault?

really appreciate your input
thanks

Many reasons the drive channel didn't work for ages. Dirty sockets, tarnished jacks, loose connections via wire connectors to boards. You took the amp and while moving it something again re-made connection. Not always an amp fault, just maintenance. Or a cracked circuit or faulty tube. Not easy to say it is a fault. I don't think you will win. Sometimes contact cleaner sprayed into sockets and jacks and then working tube or guitar plug in and out of them works wonders. Cleaning pots also makes a difference.

louis, here's a link to a site full of information on your amp. http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/

Everyone knows how much I despised mine. To each his own. I just sold mine, I couldn't deal with the headaches and fear of amp failures anymore. It could also be cold solder joints where the tube sockets mount to the PCB. Mine had that plus bad 5 watt resistors and leaking power supply caps all from a brand new amp in four months.

When you switched channels, were you using the footswitch or the panel controls?

Tube rattle in the HRDlx is horrible. It's because the tubes are placed way too close to the speaker in a small cabinet. It's real common in combos, but the HRDlx was the worst I ever owned. Eurotubes addresses the problem with specially made 6l6's to reduce the problem.
Good luck with the amp.

hi 63supro,

yeah been on that site, couldnt find much on the drive channel not working,
i can see why you despise them, they are just so unreliable, and like ya say, an unreliable amp is a horrible thing to live with.

im gutted with mine. dont really know what to do, its turned really nasty with my guitar shop. i returned it for a credit note for the full amount and they gone against there word saying they would do trade in only! as it is second hand now. and as they saying its working fine now.

however.....

trading standards said theres a case for unsatisfactory condition! so if i can prove that theres enough problems from the get go , ie.tube rattle, crackling ect... i can get a full refund. and thats what im going for now as they have turned nasty, im gonna try and get refund and buy elsewhere.....

you got any suggestions for another amp,?? i really want it to be fender..
i cant really go any higher on price than hrdlx, otherwise i would get deluxe reverb like everyone suggests,

i quite like the tweed bj, they sound sooo much nicer, but im guessing they are the same terrible build as the hrdlx, so im stumped

i find it really hard to believe that i cant buy a decent fender amp for £550. its absurd!

anyway thanks for your help mate!!

louis

I just bought a Egnater Rebel. I'm thrilled with it.
The Marshall Haze seems nice too and they have a new 5 watter too.
