alright, i can't recall how this originated, or what caused me to find this out, but long story short, i have a marshall MG15 (as in 15 watts SOLID STATE, 8" or 10" spkr) and some of you probably know of my recent acquisition of a new Pro Junior (15 watts TUBE, 10" spkr). well, the marshall seems to OUT DO the Pro Jr in volume!

i did a side-by-side of both amps, and played both at a little under max volume.
- if i have the marshall on clean channel, or the OD channel with gain low, the Pro Jr is louder...however, the difference wasn't drastic, the marshall wasn't too far behind.

- i started increasing the gain on the marshall OD channel. with gain about half way, it starts to kick the snot out of the Pro Jr, and wins the volume war, seemingly by a landslide.

i had the frequency damping feature turned on on the mg15 (supposed to emulate tube response and such). i forgot to test with it turned off, maybe i'll do it later. but that shouldn't make any difference in this case i'd think.

my closing statement for the battle was a big W.T.F. there can't be any way this is possible, i thought 15 watts tube equates to about 45 solid state. maybe more. this is bogus.

can anyone possibly make any sense of this? any guesses?

It may not seem louder, but I guarantee that a PJ will (a) sound better; (b) cut through better; and (c) carry further than any equivalent solid-state. At my band's jam space I play through a mic'ed PJ, while the other guitar player uses (for a few songs on which he plays electric) a Marshall MG100. The PJ doesn't seem to be much louder, but it is way more "visible" in the mix.
