I bought a blues deluxe re-issue when I didn't know any better and now realize that 40w is way more than I need. I can't put the volume past 2. What do you think would be a better alternative for playing at home?

I play classic rock and blues and I do like the ability to channel switch, but it's not a must. I was thinking about the blues junior, deluxe reverb or princeton reverb. Is the 22w from the deluxe still too much and am I better off with something like 15w. Any help is much appreciated.

Deluxe Reverb is perfect for me and I live in a condo. But, if you want to crank it, it is still pretty loud. I sometimes push it to 4 or 5 and haven't heard any complaints yet, but I'm certain my neighbors can hear it. With a good quality drive pedal, you can get the cranked effect at a reasonable level- perfect versatility for me. Great, quality amp too. I've played on a friends PRRI, and though it had great tone, it doesn't sound as full as I prefer. Best advice anyone can give you is to try stuff out- that's the only way to know for sure if you are getting exactly what you want.

if you like everything about the deluxe except for how loud it is, might as well just get the junior.

Totally different animal. The blues jr is an el84 amp , the Blues Deluxe is 6l6s.

I agree with the above statement but would add that there is also a difference in the features of the two respective amps and general circuit build.

Personally, I really like the Blackface amps and preferred a DRRI, but purchased a Blues Deluxe RI to try to save bucks. Then I found myself in the same position: darn thing was too loud. I suggest playing both a DRRI and PRRI and see which really fits the bill. The DRRI seems more versatile and has a deeper sound to it. Having said that, I'm right on the edge of the PRRI because I love the simplicity and portability and really find the power of the amp to be ideal for my playing situation(s).

Sorry to ramble, and I do hope some of it was helpful. Good luck to you.
