hello all,
i recently grabbed a blues deville 212 for a remarkably good price...and since I paid far less than i budgeted for one, i'm looking to make some changes.

obviously the stock gold label speakers need to go...and i would love to put some alnico speakers in there...but before i run out and buy them, i wanted to know if anyone has done this and if they ran into any problems with the magnet being too big to fit in front of the chassis (especially on the top speaker).

also i was looking for any good suggestions for some easy mods that people have had good experiences with. i've heard some pretty terrible things about bill m mods. right now, my main issues with the amp are the flabby bottom and the drive channel sounding...well like an army of bees...not sure how much of this might be fixed by new speakers...but i'm open to ideas.

i play a 73' tele deluxe.
thanks!

Before you do anything I would definitely suggest new tubes. The stock ones in Devilles are GT branded cheap $@! sovteks that are biased really cold (mine were 50mv lol) and give a sound similar to the one you describe. I found the speakers really weren't that bad, they are actually Eminence Legend 125s with Fender's label on them I believe. If eventually you decide to swap the speakers I'd personally go with weber, but that's just mah preference. I'm sure a nice set of celestions or maybe a different eminence driver would do well also. As for cheap mods, google is your friend. I haven't modified my amp yet, but I might eventually just out of curiosity ^^

Tube change is a good idea...but i'm pretty sure they aren't the 125s since those are 75w and the gold label speakers are 50.
Thanks!
