Hi Guys,

Is the Superchamp XD a good choice for bedroom/home practice with it being 15w or do you think that would be too much? I had the Deluxe VM but it was blowing my family at away and i was getting a few scowls..so its time to get something more suitbale...i use pedals so was wondering if the XD was agood choice or not? or would the baby bro the Vibro Champ be an option?

A heaphone socket would be a good option too..but i dont think fender do an amp with a headphone socket?

Does anyone have any vids using the XD with pedals or the vibro champ?

Any amp i can get above 1 on the volume without crushing the neighbours would be good..lol!

Just in case anyone from Fender reads this...can we have a small clean amp that takes pedals very well around 5-8w in power with just one Fender clean channel (no voicings) and a headphone jack...i would be first in the queue.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

You could always go with a GDec. It has a headphone jack and some of the effects are in stereo. It's actually a good practice tool.
For tubes, I'd go with a 5 watter. Vibro Champ, Champion 600, Epi Valve Jr.

Overdrive? Sure. YMMV. I find that my 74 Champ has a hard time with a wah pedal unless I use a cabinet with a bigger speaker. It takes everything else great though. You could just try out a Vibro Champ and bring a couple of your own pedals and guitar.

IMHO 15 watts is loud for a bedroom amp. I'd go 5 watts if you want to crank it.

Minus the headphone jack that is a pretty close description of the Champion 600. I've listened to a bunch of them on YouTube and got around to playing one at GC a week or two ago...now its on my wish list. :)

For home use a Champion 600 would be a good choice. If you want something you could use for home use and an occasional gig or two maybe a blues jr.It has a master volume so you could lower the headroom on it with a turn of the knob.If you gig more than occasionally , i would get something more durable.I was in an apartment for a while and the blues jr worked ok.I also have a pocket pod for headphones. Now that i live in a house i use my 59 bassman for home use and gigs. :D

I have had my Vibro Champ XD for about two weeks now.... still playing with it. I play for my own enjoyment. My equipment is typically in my media room which is about 13 x 13 and the 5w is loud enough to get the tube saturation and tone I want.

I have a lot of experimenting to do with all the voices and effects, but for practicing and playing in the house.... this is the perfect amp for me. Cranking the gain or changing the voice gives me enough volume. The wife says its still loud at times. :? (I just need to point the amp to reduce the bleed over into other areas of the house)

I have been playing mostly the Tweed Champ and Tweed Bassman voice (1 and 2). I have a vintage 1966 Champ when I want the clean blackface sound (voice 4). I have played the Jazz and acoustical voices also (15 and 16). I use 7 (the Vox AC30 voice) when I want to play some early Beatles.

I have printed off all of the settings that I like from the Fender website - for both the Vibro and Super Champ. Texas Grease sounds fine on the Vibro.

I have yet to put a pedal in front of the vibro...... and I am not sure I would need to with all the on-board effects, amp voices, and gain control. I do put a Boss RC-20XL (loop station) in front of it and have not noticed any drop in pass thru.

FWIW - I paid $175 for mine when a shop had one of those one day 10% Fender sales. (the Champion 600 was $135..... it was hard not getting it also, but I would like to stay married  )

Hello Fenderibo,

I got a Vibro Champ XD last month, traded away my 600
5 watts is plenty for my home. I figured I would tire of the
effects but they continue to entertain me.

Now is the Super Champ XD a better choice with it's
15 watts of power, maybe, but I had a budget and stuck with it.

I also have a Blues Jr I use most of the time also 15 watts
and I and my neighbors can attest it's bloody loud. Hence the
600's appearance but after 6 months a great deal on the vibro
and the 600 was on the block.

Best of luck with your choice.

Cheers.

I love my Super Champ XD - and all I do is play in my bedroom or out on the porch with it. I don't think it too loud and neither does my family.

If I need my portability to play up on the hill under a tree, I grab my little Vox DA-5 - only 5w max, and I play it set on 1w most of the time.

It's not how many watts, it's how do you like it.

I have an SCXD and I live in a condo ... haven't been hauled before the homeowner's association yet, even when playing on the patio at 2 AM. However, I don't crank it either and I think it would be way too loud for a bedroom if you're planning on running it about around 7+.

For reference, I have mine typically set on about 3 (FX channel) and maybe just a little more on the the clean channel.

As for pedals, I use a TS-808 (works well when I want to add mild OD without pushing the volume). I also occasionally use just a touch of chorus or flange and they also sound good. I haven't tried a wah yet.

The rest of my settings: bass on about 4, treble on 6, I have the FX knob on reverb, about 1/3 on and the model I use is either #1 - Tweed or #15 - Jazz. When playing at higher volumes, I also kick in the BBE Sonic Maximizer.

I finally pulled the trigger yesterday evening and ordered a Super Champ XD from The Perfect Guitar. Based on everyone's feedback, it seems like the ideal amp for the house. I'll let you know for sure once I've had the chance to fire it up. 8)
