Hello.
Just wondering what these are like? I'v decided I want a bit more 'grit' on my very clean twin reverb when I'm not driving any pedals.

I was thinking more about getting the '59 Bassman pedal more than the Deluxe.

It's hard to say what each is like because appreciation of sound is so subjective. You should probably try to go to a Guitar Center and try both with your guitar through your model amp and see for yourself. I've heard the 65 Deluxe Reverb pedal and thought it sounded quite authentic. But my feeble aural sense may be of little use to you.

Try one out. The reverb in the one I tried glitched when you hit the strings hard.

I've played the Bassman and '65 Deluxe BOSS pedals. Neither of them impressed me: the Bassman sounded very, very "digital" and the '65 reminded me of someone banging tin pie plates together.

Neither pedal seemed, to my ears at least, remotely similar to the depth, compression, and tone of their namesakes. If you want dirt, I would recommend a "standard" pedal; either a Tubescreamer or a BOSS SD-1 should serve you fine. Unlike the Fender pedals, these units are simple and designed to do only one thing!

I have the FDR-1. The dist and trem are great but the reverb sucks big time.

Obviously good tone is in the ear of the beholder; we all hear different things.

I have both the pedals mentioned, and think the Bassman modeller sounds fantastic through my modified Blues Junior. Especially if I use the high treble input. The FDR sounds good too, but is a less raw sound - I agree that the reverb sound on this pedal is naff at anything above just audible on the dial.

I can also highly recommend the new pedal in this range - which is a dedicated Fender spring reverb modeller. It sounds absolutely superb.

The FDR-1 is, without a doubt, the most disappointing piece of guitar equipment I've ever owned. BOSS seems to have forgotten that the "R" in FDR-1 stands for "reverb." Unfortunately, the reverb on this pedal is completely useless. Any setting above 9 o'clock on the dial resulted in a VERY random series of pings and pops whenever you play something. When I first bought it and plugged it in I assumed that this annoying noise must be a glitch. After all, if you've heard the real amp then you know it doesn't sound like this. So, I wrote to BOSS and asked them if they could offer a fix of some sort. They wrote back to tell me that the pings were deliberately programmed into the pedal and that no upgrade or repair was in the works. Save your money!

Has anyone tried the 63 reverb pedal yet? If so how close does it come to the original?

I doubt it's close. Digital reverb has the unfortunate tendency of sounding tinny, weak, and metallic. Spring reverb units sound good for a reason: they are electric/mechanical devices. I've never found a reverb pedal that I liked the sound of.

I recently bought the FBR-1 and it gives me exactly what I wanted. I don't know if it actually sounds like a Bassman but it definately improves my sound. The pedal brightens up my clean channel and puts some hair on it. 8)

I like them, I wouldn't mind one. They are easy to use, sound great, and have a variety of tonal options.

I've had the FDR-1 since Memorial Day '08 when I picked it up at GC on sale ($75 or $80 new if I remember right), and its role on my board just changed. Since I bought it, I was using it in front of my Epiphone Galaxie10 Tube amp for reverb and some extra eq to my tone. I played around with the gain and the levels for some OD and gain, but I left it set on a nice clean reverb sound. I always kept the reverb level around what is 4 on a Fender dial, which gave me a decent amount of reverb that didn't sound too fake, or digital.

I say that it's place and role has changed now. The reason being that I just got a NOS Blues Junior, and the spring reverb is a total difference in the tone. I played with them back and forth today between pedal and amp, and real Reverb is a no brainer. But that said, I played with the gain knob some today, and the FDR can put out some mean boost (as in making the Blues Jr. rattle the floorboards in my house with the master on 4 and the Volume on 3, with the neck single coil from my strat!). I did back it off and clean it up, and now will be using it for the trem/vibrato feature. I run the FDR with the gain at about 9:00 and the Level at 2:00, treble about 11:00, Bass at 12:00, reverb all the way off, and the vibrato at 12:00, and it sounds remarkably close to a real tube vibrato. The tap tempo option is really cool too, because you can switch from either a really short fast vib to a long slow vibe that sounds like waves. It's pretty great.

Overall, I've been very happy and satisfied with this wonderful little box. Had I not picked up the Blues Jr, I was going to look into the '63 Reverb pedal, but I don't need to now.
