Hi i was considering purchasing a Fender tube amp and i was wondering if someone could outline the differences between all of them especially the Super Reverb and the Twin Reverb. Also if you could include your opinion on the Hot Rod Deville, Hot Rod Deluxe, and Deluxe Reverb that would be great.

Well, the twin has way more headroom than any amp.It weighs in at 85 watts. You will never get a good breakup sound with this unless you play at an arena. The super reverb is about as heavy as a twin, but it has 45 watts and 4- 10s instead of 2-12 inch speakers.Similar circuitry, but lower headroom and a little more airy in sound.I havent tried out a hr deville, but i used to own a hr deluxe. It has a more ice pickey tone than the blackface. Not your classic fender tone , but a little more brittle. Not a big fan of the drive channel. The reverb is ok, but any of the blackface amps have reverb to die for.Again the hr deluxe is at 40 watts as opposed to the deville at something like 60 watts.I am sure others will chime in with their experience with the others.

I'd go with the Deluxe Reverb unless you play in a stadium or a very large hall. I've tried out a Twin Reverb (silverface) and it is the cleanest sounding amp, heaviest Fender combo, and very, very loud. I could not go past two-and-a-half on the volume in the shop.

I have tried out the hot rod deluxe, it is an OKAY amplifier. Just not quite my cup of tea (again far too loud and the distortion is, well, meh).

The vintage reissues are considered superior amps.

I as well recommend a 65 Deluxe Reverb unless you want to play strictly clean. The Super Reverb is going to be quite loud once you turn it up enough to break-up, and the Twin pretty much doesn't break-up much at all... which is what I've heard. My old Rivera era Twin Amp's clean channel wouldn't break-up until you cranked it to a stadium volume level. Personally, I prefer natural tube over drive, so now you can appreciate my bias/perspective. Of course I would never recommend to anyone that they buy an amp without first test driving it at a music store. Good Luck.

If you want to check out an amp that has a 4-10 configuration, i would give the 59 bassman a try.I have one and it weighs 12 pounds less than a super reverb at about the same wattage. It has one of the natural breakup sounds of any amp.Other than that , i like the deluxe reverb. It gives you that blackface sound and you can play it anywhere.Rule of thumb with amps is , less is more. Its better to have one slightly smaller than what you need than slightly larger. The sure sm-57 is your friend.

The Hot Rod Series are not even close in tone or quality to the DRRI, Twin or Super Reverb.

I just sold my HRDlx for an Egnater Rebel 20. It just blows the HRDlx away, and I liked it even better than the DRRI. Weird, and I love the DRRI.

How's the Egnater? Tell us more!

In my 40 years of playing, this is one of the best sounding amp's I've ever owned. It's one of the versatile amps out there. You can blend 6v6 and EL84 power tubes and dial the power down to 1 watt.
You guys need to try this thing out.

Bam, you don't want to lug around a Twin Reverb. The only dirt you'll get out of it will be with pedals. Deluxe Reverb will do the trick. 8) Mike

Maybe if they put a shoulder strap on the twin , it might be more portable.

Hello Bamboy192,

Firstly welcome to the Forum,

Well you didn't mention a lot of factors about your
playing but for monster sound and clean headroom
the twin reverb is the answer, for mortals it's usually overkill.

I like the Deluxe reverb reissue, nice & handleable, great tone
and good volume. You may have to mic it depending on the
venue your playing.

My thoughts.

Cheers.
