hey just looking for some pointers and or opinions for amp hunting. I know ulitmately i will have to try the amp out with my guitars but im not sure what to start looking at. I mainly play rock-blues type music. I play with an amer. tele. and a highwayone strat hss with duncan pick-ups in her.

Im looking for a tube amp, i mainly play in garages or small rooms like a living room, but do play outside in yards with another person or two. so id want something that would be alittle bigger for those kind of places. Im also on a price budget of around 450. I have a frontman 65r but im not happy with it so i want to try out tube amps.

IF ya look in VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE you[ll find some great TUBE amps at FAIR PRICES...a LOTof names that are'n;t at the forefront but well worth the sound.

MY FAV for you would be a FENDER PRINCETON RE_ISSUE..BU I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TONE YOU WANT OR WHAT INSTRUMENTS YOU PLAY ETC>>>>

EVERY ONE IS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT>

The PEAVEY CLASIC"S are great especially the CLASSIC 30 with head and small cab...ORANGE TINY TERROR, but IMO FENDER BLACKFACE re-isssue are the way to go......

GET a used one and spend half the money..
BESt idea is to go to a GC and bring your ax and plug and play all day long till you find your TONE !!!!

Hope that helps ya

For $450 you should be able to find a used Blues Jr or maybe even a used HR Deluxe. Good amps, both of them.

You sound like a perfect match for the Blues jr.

it has reverb, its compact, reliable and very loud when you need it to be.

and its a tube amp.

Its a match made in heaven for small gig and around home players that still want good tube tone for a good price.

as far as the other companies out there, well this is the Fender Forum.

Most of the cheaper stuff is China made JUNK !!!!!

My advice is play several amps, listen to what other people are playing, and go for the sound that seems to suit you best. If the amp you end up wanting is more than your budget, wait a few months, save up some more money, and buy what you want. It will save you money in the long run, and you won't be troubled with an amp that doesn't sound like or do what you want it to do. Just my two cents. Good luck.

I recently got a catalog from Carvin and they have some all tube tweed style amps in your price range. I saw a you tube video of a guy playing the Carvin Bel Air which sounded pretty good. I think you can get more info at Carvin.com. I've always been a Fender guy but I know some other manufactures have some nice amps at very affordable prices.

My girlfriend's brother (he's played for over 40 years) has come to be a big fan of Carvin. He now has a couple of their guitars and he's tried several amps. The only downside - they don't sell in stores (unless you live in the Hollywood or Ontario areas of SoCal).
