OK, I'm a guitar player not an electrician. Why does the Princeton RI sound so damn much better than the Blues Junior with Jensen. No comparison, the Princeton has The Whomp.

I have a PRINCETON BLACKFACE ORIGINAL and a friend recently picked up the re-issue..

IT IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE CLOSEST SOUNDING TO THE ORIGINAL than any other re-issue. When we played the same stuff the only difference I could hear was my ORIGINAL had more REVERB and presence which was only heard when we dissected it..NOBODY"S gonna dissect your playing with others.,..

The PRINCETON also has MORE WATTAGE 10 WATTS, and reverb...

IMHO I would certainly go for the PRINCETON vs THE BLUES JR without even thinking about it.

THEY are fantastic to practice and record with and I have used mine at gigs in clubs that hold 500+ people...remember you are mic'd most of the time so the days of needing 50watts to get by are LONG GONE hence the reason why all new boutique amps are LOW WATTAGE

Take YOUR ax to a GC and plug into BOTH I think your answer will be in what ya hear.

Hope that helps......(enjoy the PRINCETON..lol)

Kind of a ridiculous comparison. The only similarity is the wattage. The Princeton has 6v6 tubes , the Blues jr has el84s.The prri has tremolo , reverb and a 10 inch speaker. Why not compare a Squire strat to a John Mayer strat?

I chose to buy a Blues Junior over the PRRI (and a DRRI). IMO, the blackface-style amps sound thin with no mids at low volume; I guess that they sound a lot fuller when they're cranked. The BJr has plenty of mids, and sounds full at low volume so I bought it.

I really wanted to buy a PRRI or DRRI because they're built better than the Hot Rod amps, and I prefer having the controls on the front of the amp. But, I just couldn't handle how thin and "plinky" they sounded at low volume! I hear other people say that they're great in a band situation, but I need an amp that sounds good (to me) at all volume levels.

I have a blues jr. and a PRRI. I admit, I like the princeton better. That tremelo is awsome and IMHO the reverb is better than the BJ. I'm not going to part with the BJ though. You got to take each amp for what it is. If you like EL84 dirty sounds, the BJ is a fine little amp. If you want 6V6 clean with tremelo, the PRRI is, to my ears anyway, as fine as it gets. They both have a very different voice, each one has it's place. YMMV

And of course to compare a 500 dollar amp to a 1000 dollar amp is not really a good comparison. Its like comparing a Peavey classic 30 to a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

Hello Dual Shellman,

I own the Blues Jr. and am very happy with it.
but if the Princeton cost the same it would have
been my choice. Actually I don't think they were
reissued yet, back then.

Cheers.

The Princeton IS class AB. The Princeton also just blows away the Blues Jr in tone, build quality and reliability. Do some research on class A and AB amps.

I know what As and ABs are. I studied amplifier design as part of my electronics engineering degree more than 10 years back. It's just that someone here said the PRRI was class A.
