I've had this amp for over a month now, and it is one sweet unit. You can use all the Fx on both channels, but you cant use the Gain and Voices on the A channel. THATS OKAY though because you can coax a hell of a lot of tone out of A without it by using the FX Select and Levels alone. The amp is loud and clear at any level. Also, I have plugged it into a FM212R's preamp port and it works EXTREMELY well. Having an 8 ohm circuit in the Super Champ and (2) 4 ohm speakers in the 212, plus the added boost from the larger Solid State amp this drove it without losing any signal or tone quality at all. Did I mention that set up was LOUD.

All in all, for $299.99 retail price that it is being sold for is a steal. It should be priced up there with the Full tube amps around $500.00 or more.

Hello:

As a new user, just wanted to share my experience with the Super Champ XD. I play primarily blues, both clean and overdriven. I use the amp with an Avatar 1 x 12 with a Celestion V30. The cab has two jacks, so I can plug the 10" speaker directly into the cab and use the other jack to connect the cab to the amp, thereby allowing for use of both speakers. I originally replaced the stock speaker with an Eminence Legend 1028K alnico, which was good, but then I read the rave reviews about the Eminence Lil' Buddy and tried that in place of the alnico. The hemp cone in the Lil' Buddy seemed quite dark and almost colorless right out of the box, but I have broken it in somewhat and, combined with the brighter V30, the overall tone has a much beefier, woodier character perfect for blues. The tone is also very responsive to the tone controls on both the amp and the guitar ('88 American Standard Strat), so it easy to brighten it up when necessary for a more typically Fender-type sound.

In short, I would highly recommend the Lil Buddy, but only in tandem with an external speaker that provides more tonal balance. I am thrilled with the tones I can get out of this amp now. I should also say I replaced the stock 12AX7 with an NOS GE.

I have to definitely recommend the Ragin Cajun. It makes this amo sho nuff badass. Get four 10/32 1 inch screws at the hardware store for it because the stock ones are too short.

Just bought one off of eBay w/original working footswitch, casters and cover, mint condition (capacitors & speaker (Celestion Hellatone) were replaced but otherwise mint), from original owner, original owners' manual & magazine ad/poster incl., all for $750 - I am one lucky hombre, believe me! This amp blows doors off of anything Fender now makes (outside the Custom Shop, that is), and I wouldn't trade it for any re-issue.

well thats good to know,i just got a scxd and love it ,the speaker in it sounds great i really dont think changing speaker makes that much difference,as fender has used this stock speaker and voiced it nicely with unit,i did change the preamp out to a toshiba japan 12ax7 and that changed the amp heaps, more clarity and just a sweet tone,i have left the groove tubes from factory in as it sounds great the way it is,as i think they have matched this unit up great ,dont you think they probably tried different tubes before settling on these!,overall great unit and sounds just as good as my fender super 112 60w all tube, and light as a feather compared to most fender tube amps :!:

I'm having a problem with my brand new Superchamp XD. I am getting a lot of hissing or static noise when I select the reverb f/x on both the clear channel #1 and on some voices on channel #2 - especially voice #16.

I don't know if my amp is defective or if this is a design flaw. Can you tell me if yours does this:

Plug in the guitar, put the amp on channel 1, volume =10, f/x level=10 and then switch the effect between reverb and tremolo or something else.

Do you get a lot of static on reverb?

Thanks.

I have just started running my superchamp through the fm212 and it sounds great :D :D :D

I'm responding to a couple of things about the SCXD. First, and it's probably all ready been said, the 12AX7 is a dual purpose tube. It powers the phase inverter & also works as a preamp tube. I've heard of tubes serving a dual purpose before. I have noticed that the SCXD, that it has loads of treble &/or bass available. As I switch from one voice to another, I have to make treble & bass adjustments. I haven't had a Fender amp for some time and the first night I played it in my apartment, my neighbor was right at my door. That treble got through to her. I'm glad that the treble and bass controls work so well. Overall, for the money, it's a great deal. Fender put quite a bit into that little amp.

I agree with you about the SCXD, it's a great amp, but you're not totally correct about the 12AX7. You're right, one half of it is the phase inverter, and the other half is a buffer between the digital preamp and the power amp section. It has no typical preamp function and just provides a bit of gain and has little effect on the tone of the amp.

Thank you for clarifying the purpose of the 12AX7. I've had amps all of my life but am just beginning to learn about tubes. I've read enough information to know that I want to get at least an intermediate knowledge about tubes. "Keep on Playing".
