The SCXD noise gate is driving me crazy! When using a low output vintage strat and turn down the volume on the guitar - there is a sizzling noise-gate-killed useless tone comming out. Maybe a low cost analog/digital converter is to blame too.

I'd love to turn off that noise gate! :x

Any similar experiences or ideas?

Maybe there is some gain problem in the input section - since my SCXD is less loud than I expect for 15W. I did a band rehearsal with a moderate drummer and could't really cut through at Vol 10 :(

Is your Superchamp XD "loud"?

Yes - mine is quite loud. Rattles the walls at about 6 - 7.

Most 15 watt amps have a rough time getting over ever a slightly aggressive drummer. You can always mic it. You really need 20 watts or better for most band situations unless you can like I said, mic it.

THX for your answers! Do you have this brizzling-noise-gate-sustain-killing-digital-artefact effect too when reducing the volume on the guitar? Maybe I will record some sound samples to make myself clear.

I think I know what you mean here, and to fix it should be easy. With the guitar turned down, maybe the DSP is trying to amplify such a weak signal, that decays, that it cannot "interpret" it. I would dime the guitar, and turn down the amp volume. I don't think the SCXD has a very good "tube distortion", because everything runs thru the DSP. So, if you need overdrive, turn up the gain on one of the models.

Yes, i think this is exactly what is happening here, the DSP A/D-converter has a problem with low input signals, but i love to work with the volume pot on my guitar. What irritates me is that no one else seem to have a problem with that. I will try out a different SCXD at my dealer to be shure my SCXD is or isnt faulty.

I visited the dealer with my SCXD and compared it with his demo amp, which showed exacly the same effect. So this is apparently normal 8-(

Here is a sound sample of mine, clean channel at volume 10, 79 strat at volume 5:

I think one can hear this digital distortion/quantisation/sizzling noise in the decay.
