My Performer 1000 is great sounding, loud amp (especially the clean chanel)......................whenever it decides to work; it seems to randomly change its mind about that and can die at any given moment. I've read reviews of this amp and its RocPro "replacement" and quite a few users have reported things like random chanel switching, or the amp just cutting off intermittently. Usually, the amp's volume will drop off dramatically and then suddenly get loud again. Plus, it you try to adjust anything, you get a tons of LOUD (as in quite loud) static and it almost sounds like the thing is getting ready to explode or something. Obviously this amp is unusable and is one step from going into the garbage, but I may consider getting it fixed. Are ther any other Performer/RocPro users here who have had similar issues? What was the resolution?

Hi, I've just joined this forum after stumbling across it on the web. I have a Perfomer 1000 (80's) and have a background in electronics. I heard about these problems before I bought mine. I only got it as a stop gap until i could afford a nice valve amp. To be honest i need not change it as it sounds great both clean and driven. I was amazed that a trnsistor amp could do this after owning a fender 75 dual channel valve head and (years ago) an original Fender tremolux head and cab (why did I ever sell them!!)
Anyway, I have been using it for jamming and (loud) rehearsals but with no switching problems. The first thing I did when I got it was take out the amp chassis and re-solder all the possible points that could fail due to vibration. My main concern was 'any' jack sockets that solder onto a pcb - these will almost always fail. The sockets get 'wiggled' everytime you plug in and out with the leads. I suspect that the problems you are having may be due to this. If an 'intermittant' connection is made due to a poor solder joint on one of the jack sockets then I would guess that the voltages, that control the channel and reverb switching, could jump and cause the switching when you do not want it to.
Don't put it in the garbage! If you feel confident, or have a friend who plays around with amps, just go over the pcb joints with fresh solder joints and also re-apply solder to the wires that join to the board. While it is all apart, spray some switch cleaner into pots (controls), clean the jack socket connector with switch cleaner on a cotten bud (Q tip) and it should all be good for ages. These are brilliantly designed and well build in my opinion. This 'stop gap' has now become may main amp and it blows away my valve amp buddies with it's clarity and volume. I have done a few mods to the circuit to make it more useable, and will do a few more soon (details if you want them). Hope that is useful information... wishes.....

Hey rsselec - would you mind giving some more details about the mods you did on this amp? I just bought one a few weeks ago for $175 and it sounds OK sometimes but seems to be very tempermental and I'm thinking of bringing it into the shop to have some work done on it. I've heard great things about this amp from people who've had it fixed, so any insight would really be appreciated! Feel free to email me as well - mps1981@yahoo.com. Thanks so much for your help.
