Sorry I am sure this has been asked but, I just purchased a 1965 Deluxe Reverb Reissue Limited Edition with the blond Tolex and the Jensen p12Q speaker.

Now I want to purchase a couple of effects pedals for overdrive Chorus etc. anyone have recommendations based on experience.

The obvious pedal to recommend is a TS9 Ibanez Tube Screamer. If you like your 'endrix, a vox wah, or any sort of wah.
Also, for going 'over the top' Hendrix overdrive, a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face (re-issued by Jim Dunlop). This pedal can also clean up well if you roll the volumn back on your Strat a bit. There just the pedals I generally use most. For a chorus type effect, I use a Marshall Regenerator.

If you've never really been a pedal man and you just want a simple one to start with, get the tube screamer.

Its mentioned a lot more if you search :)
The TS -808 circuit is preferred but costs more.
Also Maxon used to make the screamers for Ibanez, they still put them out under their own brand name. While Ibanez has found someone else to make the new ones.

If you want to give a listen to a pile of OD pedals try here

Or you can get a used TS9 cheap and mod it to TS808 specs.

Lots say the TS-808 doesn't put enough 'umph' or difference in the sound (at low volumn). Lots say the TS-9 can sound a bit too nasal.
But back on topic, I would advise either the TS-808 or TS-9. To me there both very similar.

I agree, most of the time I dont hear a difference big enough to justify an extra $100 in cost. TS9 are so easy to mod, why not put an IC socket and experiment with different chips. The difference will be very subtle anyway depending on the surrounding gear you use it with.

moding yourself only works if you are handy and comfortable with soldering :) otherwise you are paying someone to do it, Probably negating any cost savings.

I also agree if you can't hear much difference go with the cheaper one, best to go and test drive them out at a shop first.

You may want to consider the BOSS ME-20 http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=894&ParentId=46 . I have '63 Vibroverb RI, and didn't need a pedal with amp sims, just FX. It works well my amp.

All great advise. am going to the local music store to check out. In addition to the TS9 I am also going to check out the Boss OD-3.

Oh Yeah I have an 2009 Fender American Standard Strat for my main guitar, with no mods yet. What a great clean tone the strat and the DRRI make together.

Thanks Yawl,

Steve

How about a Big Muff? Both the American and the Russian one driven by a Analogman modified TS-9/808.

For an overdrive pedal .... i HIGHLY recommend the Blackstar HT-DUAL. I use it with my Deluxe Reverb and it SINGS! It can go from giving you a clean boost, to crunch, to brutal distortion, all served up by its very own power tube right inside the pedal chassis, which looks very cool when lit up!

You can get a great tubescreamer sound a much cheaper price with the digitech badmonkey overdrive. You can get for about $40.00.

Well the Danelectro Cool Cat line of pedals have been getting good reviews on Youtube. I have the Coolcat Distortion and Drive, I use them on a solid state FM 212R and I think the CoolCat drive is great for aggressive blues/ roots rock on low drive. On higher gain settings it sounds like a Plexi, great tone for 25 bucks.

I'll second the Bad Monkey. Actually posted it in a thread on the Strat forum last night. It gets close to TS808 range for 40-50 bucks. Can find them used fairly often in the 25-30 dollar or under range. Closer to the TS808 than the TS9 is to my ears. You can hear demos on most of them at musiciansfriend which I assume uses at least somewhat similar setups.

I do want to try out a HT-Dual sometime, but that is up in 808 price territory and that's the biggest reason why I had a Bad Monkey and not a TS808.
