On another discussion group one of the members said you can safely use 6v6 tubes in a SCXD. Can you do this?

UMMMM... yes. That's what the stock tubes come with.

2 6v6
1 12ax7

I am not sure you can use any others, unless you re-bias the crap out of it.

If you're thinking the other way around and putting 6L6s in a SCXD in place of the 6V6s then, no I wouldn't. It will probably work... for a while. You'd have to bias it though and get a beefier output transformer to handle those 6L6s.

Even then, it would probably still play some kind of havoc on other internal components unless Fender built the SCXD with a lot more overhead in the components than is the norm in lower cost mass produced amps.

I have the Vibro Champ XD and I'm no expert on the amps, but I've played around inside a few tube amps in the past. Semi-educated guess. Take it for whatever that's worth.

Oh yeah, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Or have a V8. So mildly educated guess...
