I have a HR DeVille 410 which has been wonderful.
Recently began practicing with my son-in-law and we really don't need 60 watts for our small room application. We's like to have the benefits of overdirve without the volume. I have considered adding a plate of some kind, but am in the mood for some new stuff, so.....

I am looking for suggestions on a new amp that has significantly less power, maybe in the 5 to 15 watt area. I am not that familiar with what is out there other than minor exposure to the '57 Champ Custom, which only meets one of the needs requirements. Don't necessarily need to stay within Fender's brand, but that would be nice.

Needs are:
All tube
2 inputs
reverb

In addition - Wants are:
tremolo
pre out / main in or effects loop

All suggestions are welcome.

Take a look at the new Super Champ XD (15 watts/10" speaker) and the Vibro Champ XD (5 watts/8" speaker).

Both are all tube with DSP effects for amp modeling and effects. Super Champ runs about $299, while the smaller Vibro is fetching $199. The Super has a clean channel and a voicing channel, the Vibro only has the voicing channel (You can get a clean through one of the voices)

They might service your practice needs, not break the bank, or your back.....

This video - actually there are two vids this gentleman did to demo the amp - really sold me...... He does a nice going through each voice (vid #1) and the effects (Vid #2)

I test drove each amp locally. I have a Vibro Champ on the way.... bought it from Bananas Music in California during their 10% off Fender sale last weekend.

If you want authentic Fender cleans with tremolo i would suggest you give the Princeton Reverb or the Deluxe Reverb a look see.

I'm closing in on a Princeton Recording Amp.

Any thoughts or opinions?

I'm telling everyone I know to go to Guitar Center and play through an Egnater Rebel 20 before they buy any low-wattage amp.

It's probably not for everyone. But I think it's the most amazing amp on the market now... for the money, for the power, for the unique flexibility, for the voicing, I don't see how you can beat it.

I've heard reviews on the Princeton recording amp, but I heard that the power attenuator is okay, and not too great. But I think it is a great buy. Maybe a bit overpriced.

Not afraid to ask the tough questions, I see. :)

I've played through one, albeit briefly. Sounded good, but I didn't necessarily see the need for an attenuator on a 15 watt amp. I thought the gimmicky onboard effects took away from the beauty of a little tube combo. My own prejudices aside, however, it did sound really good so by all means buy it; it is a Fender tube amp, after all.

My sole purpose in life is to confuse people on the simplest of matters. Although at times this can be very easy to understand, but it's also a bit complicated.

With a lot more tonal and volume control too.

Well, Got the Princeton Recording Amp yesterday.
Love it !
Spent over an hour doodling with it at the store. It seems to do what I want out of an amp and does a really nice job going through my Hot Rod Deville 410 speakers.
Getting tone without having the volume to tear down levels is super.
The foot pedal is also functional and seems to be build well.
