if you plug a volume pedal into the loop you'll get the same effect and be able to control the volume with your foot. Volume pedals are cheap enough. Probably cheaper than that cheesy box if you pay shipping.

These boxes are nothing but a volume pot and 2 jacks. You can build one yourself for under 10 bucks. They are NOT attenuators, they are nothing more than volume controls. You will not get tube saturation like you will with an attenuator. There may be a volume box on Justin's site.

You're both right...it is just a volume pot. It's not a true attentuator. I apolgize for trying to help with my "cheesy box."

Jim

Jim don't take it personally. :D You did help, you just called it the wrong name. You don't need to apologize. Sorry I hurt your feelings, but I would hate to see young guys calling it what it isn't. A real attenuator will let you push the amp without going deaf. It is cheesy and overpriced to boot. Three really inexpensive parts are all you need.

Sorry supro! It's been a long week already, I guess. Being a newbie, I shouldn't be so free to dispense advice without verifying the facts.

Humbly,
Jim

hey louis... i bought an omnisonic volume box a few years ago. heres what i did....

on the top of your amp on the chrome control panel there are two plugs that say send and return. i bought two livewire (brand) patch cables bc theyre very flexible and put one into the send into the 'input' on the omnisonic. then from the 'output' on the omnisonic to the return on the amp. thats it.

basically, it is an external volume knob. you can have 100% power running through ur amp. (ill turn my volume up to 7) crank the amp to get all that great tone, then use the omnisonic just to lower the level... no tone is sacrificed for the volume drop. its probably the best option for a hot rod or blues amp!! not kidding. i have not had one problem with mine. my friend mark has had his omnisonic on his blues deluxe for longer than iv had mine.. great product.

hi bill948,

question; i was considering a hot rod deluxe and have had only limited time to play one. but based on videos and reviews it seems like it must be extremely loud with fantastic tone. Can you not use the Master volume to get a great tone and keep the volume down? I guess maybe on the clean channel you couldn't but what about the drive channel?

I just think that for the money (I think even new it seems like a good value) its a great choice. I guess if all else fails I could just get an attenuator like you. Just wondering what your experience with trying to keep it down by manipulating the master.

from my couple years of experience, turning down the master will cut your tone and 'starve' your amp. i HIGHLY suggest buying an omnisonic from ebay... $25 (give or take bc of shipping) and CRANK THAT AMP!!!! and graciously receive all the glorious tone that your amp was designed to give you... my 2 cents.

thanks a lot for the 2 cents. i immediately looked that up (websearch) that took me to harmony central first. i was really excited because unlike most product reviews there weren't guys saying it was a ten and then guys saying it was completely useless. Basically everyone says its wonderful and a couple even specifically mentioned hot rod model amps that the can now crank the amps "without the neighbors showing up at my door with pitchforks and torches." I am going to go ahead and try it. Currently I have a 5watt valve junior. Maybe I can push that thing this unit til I get the cash together for the hot rod I want. Maybe I can get a 2x12 instead of 1x12 and get even more sound with out getting sued!

yeah these little volume boxes are great, and a brilliant cheap alternative to a attenuator.

ive found a guy in england who makes these, and hes on you tube, he makes them to order, and he demos it on his hot rod deville,

check it out, if you put master volume through effects loop, into you tube you will find it,
couldnt get any demos of the omnisonic, this is exact same product,, sounds sweeet
hes called benfingerssmith

Hi sorry I didn't see this until today,
I dont know anything about the omnisonic so I cant really answer that, but I hope you report back as to what you do find out. My attenuator was a bit pricey, ($100.00) but I am very happy with the results.

yea its great. i do use it. my friend mark has one for his blues deluxe, which convinced me to buy one like 2 years ago for my hot rod deville. i (personally) refuse to suggest products without having tried them first... but in this case... i actually own it and use it daily. i said earlier that i used to turn down my master volume on my amp.. but that would starve the tone so i would get a really nasty, not so sweet sound. with the omnisonic, you keep your tone (because everything runs through the effects loop) and the volume is the only thing that goes down.

for example: you amp will be turned up to MAX POWER.. and if the volume knob is at 1 on the omnisonic... you'll be able to hear all the grunt, dirt, nasty hotness, overdrive, distortion, whatever you call it, but at quiet volumes. its a very great product.
