I'm a little miffed. I bought a new 2009 Fender '65 DRRI and I've got it completely broken in. I can not get it to do the low end as sweet, loud and deep as my Fender Cyber Deluxe. I realize the speakers are totally different and I'm thinking that I should install the Celestion G12T-100 speaker from the Cyber Deluxe, in the 65.

They are both 12". Am I on the right track? Any suggestions?

Hmmm. Very odd. I have a very bright Strat. I like the treble at about 4-5 and the bass about 5-6. When I turn up the amp, I have to turn down the bass and the treble to about 4 each (because of the way our ears hear and interpret sound at different volumes, ever wonder what the "LOUD" feature is for on a car stereo headunit?) Anyways, when I turn up to say 4 on the volume, I get huge deep bass and tons of highs, so much so, that I must turn the EQ down to the aforementioned settings. Also of note, I prefer my amp to sit flat on the floor, which greatly increases perceived bass response. Do you perhaps have your amp sitting atop another amp, or amp stand, etc.? This really makes a big difference. Then, if that's not it, look into the tubes. My DRRI came new with a bunch of bad tubes. I've swapped out almost all of 'em. Let us know how it goes.

Man, I think you nailed it on two counts. Yes, the amp is as high as it can go on a tilted amp stand... right, the closer you get a surface(s), the better the bass reesponse. Yes, I have come to the same conclusion... the stock tubes suck. I guess I'll have to get some Tug-Sol for V1 and V2 and perehaps some JJ 6V6.

I also did a bit of digging and low and behold, I found many reviews stating that the G12T100 (or "hot 100") in the Cyber Deluxe has a sweet deep low end.

So I guess I have my work cut out for me. Thanks for your quick response and excellent words of encouragement!

Oh, btw - what tubes did you retube your 65 with?
