would a twin be sufficient for gigging in a small hall or stage?

Oh yeah. At 100 watts it'll take care of all your gigging needs. Remember though, the Twin has a lot of clean headroom. You need to really crank it for OD. If the venue is too small for a cranked 100 watt amp, and most are, you'll need an OD pedal.
