I am looking to buy a Fender modeling amp and have tried both of these, but I didn't hear enough of a difference to justify the extra $100 for the Super Champ. I know it has a bigger speaker and 10 more watts, but is there enough of a difference to spend the extra money?

Thanks,
Jim

Depends on how you plan to use it I guess...the extra power (15w vs. 5w) is nice if you need it, and I really like the clean channel for its sweet, clear tone. I would imagine the 10" speaker in the SCXD vs. the 8" speaker in the VCXD would add something to the perceived fullness of the sound, but I'm only speculating here as I haven't done a side by side comparison.

When I bought my SCXD I went into the store planning to buy a Vibro Champ....got a great sale price ($250) on the SCXD so I went for it.

Hello Strat2k6,

I just got the Vibro Champ XD for $180.

Now I think the Super is a superior product
but I didn't need the higher wattage or dual channels.
You can also get a pedal for channel changing on the Super,

Bottom line was I wanted to keep my purchase price under $200.

Best of luck with your choice.

Cheers.

Strat2k6 -

It's hard to hear the difference sometimes of the various amps when you are testing them in the store. The size of the space and all the other noise makes it hard to tell the actual volume of sound the amp can produce - particularly at a GC where every 19 yr old is trying to shred

If you are like me, I play for own enjoyment, and I don't need to blast the wife and kids out of the house. If there is a small room at store - maybe they teach classes at the store and you can use one of the little studio rooms - test the amps there. Find something in relative size to where you play at home.

I made this mistake once and brought home a 40 watt HRDX. It went from zero to earsplitting. Not a good amp for home. I had a 15 watt Vox Valvetronix... fun amp and probably as loud as I would want to get. I recently sold the Vox because I didn't like the tap tempo for the effects.

I just ordered a Vibro Champ to replace the Vox after comparing the Super and the Vibro. The Super is very nice, but I knew from past experience my media room couldn't take the additional 10 watts.

So think about where you are going to play the amp and buy accordingly. Solid advice from an architect

Good Luck.

I just bought the Vibro Champ, strictly for home use. I can tell you that 5 watts is way more than enough power for home use.

For my situation, and my budget, I could not justify spending an extra $100, but everyone's circumstances are different.

I got the Super because I had it in mind that I wanted a practice amp that I could, at some point, use to play with others.
The Vibro wouldn't have cut it ,IMO.
The extra $ was worth it to me.
