I see that Groove Tubes has a set of Fender/Marshall pre-amp tubes that are ECC83's for both Fender and Marshall upgrades. Can I use them in my amp? Can I use the Marshall set in my amp? Are they better/smoother than the 'gain/more gain' tubes that came in the amp? I love the clean sound (I replaced the 6L6's that came in the amp with a pair of GT6L6S's I saved from the 70's and re-biased to 49.5) and the clean channel has WAY better tone. I just don't like the overdrive much. Will the new pre amp tubes sound better? What is the correct bias for this amp? Anybody else out there have any other ideas?

I can't stand Groove Tubes, but that's just me. There are a lot better sounding tubes on the market. JJ/Tesla, Winged C's, TAD to name a few.

I sent the ecc83's back to groove tubes...........they made the "more drive" channel worse.......the JJ 6V6 blues option#2 ( I think...check Eurotubes) worked the best for clean and 1st drive channel. Still looking for the more drive channel fix.............

You can call or email Bob at Eurotubes, maybe he has an answer.

I called them but they didn't have an answer. Find the right distortion pedal was their answer. They said EVERYBODY wants the "Fender/Marshall" holy grail amp. I bought the Keeley mod Boss DS-1 which does the Marshall power chord thing great, but is too nasally of a midrange for leads. I tried an EQ pedal to fix that......but it didn't work either. Still looking for a good distortion pedal and I am willing to pay good money. I will probably sell the modded DS-1. I have an old MXR Distortion plus from the 70's and a Vintage Rat from the 70's and an Expandora Distortion..........yuk. Any ideas ?

You won't get a Marshall sound from a Fender period. Marshalls don't use 6v6 power tubes. Look at the Egnater Rebel.

The buzz could be from your single coil PUP's. Humbuckers tend to be less noisy. Also a change in preamp phase invertor tube may quiet the amp.
