Hi All,

I've got a couple of questions regarding my scxd amp. While I primarily play my scxd at home, I'm thinking about playing my guitar with a small orchestra in our local theater group--we perform in a small, echoey auditorium--no real PA system needed. The orchestra is usually made up of 10 -15 folks--windwoods, piano, drums, rhythym guitar and bass. Would the scxd be a good fit for bedroom and orchestra playing, or should I look at trading up to something like the blues deluxe? I've been toying with the notion of either replacing the stock speaker or building a 12" cabinet.

My second question--is there any advantage to having an effects loop, versus plugging straight into the front of the amp, from a tone perspective? I've got a Boss ME-70, and the octaver on it seems to fart out on the lower strings when running through the scxd. Thanks in advance!

Jeff

The scxd will do fine for what you need. I played a show with someone who used one for an audience of 100+ people and it was great! But, if you can get a Blues Deluxe, get it!

I don't own a scxd so I can't answer your second question.

I disagree with this. I own a SCXD. In it's stock form the 10" speaker won't sound that great with a large group, unless the music is played at very low volume. You could change the speaker to something more efficient like an Eminence Rajin Cajin, but ultimately I think you'd do better getting a more powerful amp, like a DRRI or Hot Rod Deluxe. The HRDx sounds good at low volume because it's pretty bass heavy.

I agree with gtrman. I own a SCXD and I upgraded it with a Ragin Cajun speaker and it added a lot of volume. Although the original speaker had more fender chime, it flubbed on the low end. The RC is nice and full, and adding it increases the amp's headroom.

But, I also agree with gtrman's suggestion about considering a DRRI, Hot Rod, or Blues Deluxe. For playing with others, it's always nice to have more amp than you need rather than not enough.
