Is this a good amp?

I believe the best amp for a beginner is a used amp because you will most likely change your ideas about what you want as you progress and you don't want to have all your money tied in your first amp. You didn't say if you might be buying a new one for top dollar or getting a good deal on a used one. That being said I bought a new one two years ago when I got back into guitar after a forty year hiatus. I knew I wanted about that much power, a 12" speaker and wanted to experiment with the amp models and effects. I feel the amp has a good Fender clean and the effects work but the amp models are disappointing. They are pretty muddy. The one that is closest to the Blues Jr. Tube amp I use now is the Blackface- gives a little overdrive without getting muddy. The British one has good drive and sustain without mud and you might like the Metal which can get pretty wild but I don't know if it is good because I am not a metal fan.

You may decide you want a tube amp someday but I don't think buying a solid state for a first amp is a bad idea mainly because solid state amps cost less. But the 65 dsp new is not inexpensive. If you stay with guitar you will probably end up with some kind of tube amp like I and most people do, or if you really like the solid state modeling amp idea you might prefer the Line 6 Spider 3 line (I've never tried them) but they are popular. You should try the 65 dsp if you haven't already but to beginners everything can sound good and you can't know how your ideas will change. I would suggest a used FM25r and maybe a drive pedal like a Bad Monkey. When you know what you really want you can sell the 25 for what you paid for it.
