I was very close to picking up a Super Champ XD. However a few recent posts have made me second guess my decision and start thinking that maybe the Virbo Champ is a better choice.

I am getting the amp for practice and 'bedroom' use so I need to keep the volume down. I read a few posts that state the Vibro Champ sounds better at lower volumes than the Super Champ. Since I will be playing at lower volumes, this is important to me. Any opinions on this would be appreciated.

Also, am I giving up anything with the Vibro Champ other than extra wattage and a clean channel. Also, is the clean channel on the Super Champ similar in sound to voice number 4 in the amp modeling mode or is it a true straight clean, unaltered tube channel (with no digital simulation)

Hello Finterra,

I like em both and the Super is slightly cleaner,
but not a super big deal.

At Musician Friend now $199 for the 5 wattt vibro champ.
Here is a link.

Sure the Supers better but at nearly twice this price.

Cheers

I have the SCXD for about a month now. My "practice" room is next to my neighbour's bedroom so I need to be quiet enough not to raise complaints when feeling like playing after 22:00.
I must say I didn't expect from a tube amp to be in low volume and still not loosing any of it's character. If it's not a money issue, go for the Super. It has that something extra that someday you may regret you didn't have.

The clean channel on the SuperChamp is similar to voice 4, but not identical.
And all of sounds from the SCXD are digital even the clean channel.

Thanks for the opinions. I'm hoping to visit a GC that has both in stock so I can try them side by side. I'm still leaning towards the SCXD .... but who knows. Some very strange events can take place in a GC.

Hello Finterra,

Well this holiday weekend I took advantage
of the amazing sales and purchased a
Vibro ChampXD for a mere $180.
5 watts is enough for me.

Cheers.

I snagged a SCXD at GC (Plymouth Meeting) during their Memorial Day sale for $250. I am a beginner through and through, but love the versatility of this amp. The onboard effects are nice, and the amp models are neat to mess around with. I recently started using pedals with it (Boss Blues Driver, EHX Little Big Muff Pi) and it makes the tone that much sweeter.

Best of luck with your decision...I don't think you can really go wrong.

I just received the SCXD I purchased on-line from Musicians Friend ($299 .... not quite as good as the in house price at GC .... somewhat of an impulse purchase when I saw the reduced price on the web site). I've only had a chance to play it for about an hour last evening, but my initial reaction is that it is pretty sweet. I haven't owned a tube amp for many years and I'm rally excited to be playing one again.

One of the guys that I record with uses a VCXD and it sounds great for recordings.

I've heard the SCXD also and think they are both decent for the price.
