Hey everyone,

I'm saving to upgrade from my little solid-state Frontman 65r, and am definitely going to buy a tube combo for my next amp.

I've been considering several models, from the VOX AC30cc2, to the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I also have my eye on the Hot Rod DeVille, bu I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the 212, and 410 combos.

I know that 212 is 2x12 speakers, and 410 is 4x10, but I'm unaware of how the tone differs when both amps are compared side by side. Peavey also produces a similar amp, the Classic 50 coming in both a 212 and 410 combo, and I would love to know what the differences are in each design, mainly the tone...

My theory is that the 212s will have more bass because of the larger speakers, and the 410s will be louder because of the four speakers (but be brighter than the 212, because of the 10 inch speakers).

I'm just 16, but I'm in a band and want an amp that can be a workhorse in a school auditorium/cafeteria, small club/bar venue, etc...

I also want that classic Fender tone in both the clean and overdriven channels, with the bright clicks and buzzes that go with the single coil pups of a Tele or Strat (I have the former).

Feedback is well appreciated.

Thanks!

I recently tested the DeVille 2x12 and 4x10 side by side and found that the 4x10 had a somewhat fuller, warmer sound, while the 2x12 was indeed a little bassier. The differences were pretty subtle, though, to my ears.

I eventually picked up a used DeVille 2x12 via Craigslist. I had been shopping for one because I needed an amp that would compete with my bandmate's Twin Reverb. So far I'm very happy with it: it's plenty loud and its got a nice tone, especially on the clean channel. It works well for both my Tele and my Strat.

Note that some members on this forum have reported a number of maintenance issues with the Hot Rod amps. While I personally have had no problems, it would definitely be a good idea to hold onto the receipt in case you need to take it in for repairs.
