I picked up a Twin Reverb reissue a few years back. It's loaded with Eminence speakers, but I thought they all came w/ Jensens. Did Fender put Eminence in them for a while, or did I get a modded amp??

They came with them for a while. Some people say they sucked so Fender switched them. I can't verify if they really suck or not, how does it sound to you?

they sound fine to me, but I've also been playing w/ it for so long that the sound is a part of my tone now.

I've also got a '65 TRRI with the Eminence speakers in it. Bought it used and didn't know that the newer ones came with Jensens. Personally, I am very pleased with the sound of the Eminence and haven't been able to justify the purchase of any Jensens. However, I haven't taken my whole rig into a Guitar Center to see if the Jensens sound any better either - could be missing out on a world of tone, but I think the way it is sounds is heads above most of the other amps I've had or heard so I'm fine with them for now.

I would, however, like to know what the Jensens are supposed to do better than the Eminence. I have yet to have anybody tell me (or read on the internet) why the Jensens are preferred other than "they sound better". Well what is "better" to you? Warmer? Break up faster? Tighter bass response? Still waiting for a good description.

I've had a TRRI with Eminence speakers for over a decade, and have never really been happy with the sound. Kind of brittle, not enough warmth. All the TRRI's that I've tried out in stores the last several years sound a lot better to me than mine. I'm starting to think that the speakers are the reason. I've tried changing tubes, rebiasing, etc.

Don't sweat the speakers. Mine sounds brittle and it's only a year old with the newer speakers. I am going to look into the tubes creating some warmth. Maybe were barking up the wrong tree.

Yeah I have one of the first 300 made that has the Eminence speakers in it and they sound fine. The Jensen C12K is a better speaker if you ask me but not enough to justify changing them. I have C12Ks is most of my amps but I'm not going to be change my Eminences out.
