There is a photo of a Red Fender deluxe on the website. Is it available or is it just for show?

The red Hot Rod Deluxe you saw is probably "Texas Red," one of our new Factory Special Run models. It's got a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker, ivory knobs, Wheat grille cloth, and a limited-edition badge.

We have shipped a few to dealers and will continue to do so over the rest of the year 'til we fill the orders. If you are intersted in getting one, ask your authorized Fender dealer if they have any on order.

Thanks,
Shane

Shane, I see that groove tubes has a set of Fender/Marshall pre-amp tubes that are ECC83's for both Fender and Marshall upgrades. Can I use them in my amp? Can I use the Marshall set in my amp? Are they better/smoother than the 'gain/more gain' tubes that came in the amp? I love the clean sound (I replaced the 6L6's that came in the amp with a pair of GT6L6S's I saved from the 70's and re-biased to 49.5) and the clean channel has WAY better tone. I just don't like the overdrive much. Will the new pre amp tubes sound better? What is the correct bias for this amp? Anybody else out there have any other ideas?

You can swap pretty much any 12AX7 or ECC83 in your Hot Rod without fear of hurting anything. If it doesn't rattle or squeal, and you like the sound, great; if not, no harm done. Because the Hot Rod is a small, high-gain combo amp, some 12AX7s will be more susceptible to microphonics and noise than they will in, say, a Deluxe Reverb.

There are so many variations of these tubes that it's tough to say one is "better" than another; you really have to try them yourself.

Some 6L6s will not bias correctly in some amps, and you can overheat the amp if you use the wrong power tubes. It's important to get a copy of the service manual for any amp that you service... If you are not qualified, please seek the help of an authorized service center.

Gotta go, thanks and good luck!

Shane
