Never heard any good feedback from GT tubes, neither sound nor durability.

Just picked mine up last week, brand new for $150 at GC!!!!!

They had it miss priced so I took advatage of it. When I worked at the one in Tacoma, cost was a little more than $200.

Really awesome amp! I've been wanting one for a long time, but couldn't justify the price. I'm gonna buy some different JJ Tesla tubes and see what I like.

I think they're being discontinued. The rep said they rang up for $180.

I went to GC yesterday planning to buy one with the new price drop, but after trying one out I was unsure to say the least.

The one I played was brand new, still in the box until I got there...they opened it right in front of me when I asked to give it a test. I played both a MIM standard and American standard through it and the speaker was hissing, popping and cracking the hole time...it didn't change if I moved the cable around, but Itried 2 different cables just in case. It wasn't overwhelming, but was loud enough that it would have definitely annoyed me if I were playing in the quieter confines of my own home.

Is this typical of the stock speaker or was my experience unusual? Only a handful of the reviews I've read mentioned this, and I haven't heard those noises on the YouTube vids I've watched of stock/unmodified Champ 600s.

I wanted to like it, but left without one.

Sounds like a bad tube. Those come with crappy cheap tubes and you'll want to replace them first thing anyway. Don't give up on them, great little amps!

'Tis a great little amp, I was thinking of changing out the tubes but with 11s and some nice strings on my Stratocaster it sounds good, just love the tone. Fully cranked the lil guy goes too overkill but turn the around 9 or 10 it we are OK, nothing that tubes or a good speaker can cure.

As for cabinets, I played mine through a Vox with a Celestion Greenback, The Vox AC4 cad with a Celestion and a Blackheart with an eminence speaker. It Certainly brings life and reduces some harshness and sounds better in a larger room, however I got the VoxAC4 one day and returned it the following morning.

The Vox with the 12 inch speaker allowed me to play in a larger room and push some more air however when I places the Cab in my bedroom there was just no difference, I actually prefered playing just through the Champ600. With the money I spent and got refunded on the cab I could have easily got a speaker and some tubes which would have resulted in a better outcome.

For now the amp is fine and I play through it everyday, just can't beat those Fender cleans 8)

HopDog: My amp hisses and crackles atc but not enough for me to even worry, I am certainly not recording with it and I cannot hear these noises over the nice tone. But yeah I originally got the 5222 but the noises were even worse, so as mentioned before it is probably just the tubes or speaker

So I ended up taking a chance on a Champion 600 from an unlikely source...Best Buy. I had some extra reward gift cards lying around so I got it new for $110 and free shipping. I really like this little amp...mine has a slight hum when cranked, but otherwise is pretty quiet.

I think the one I tried at Guitar Center was a lemon...either bad tubes as suggested or possibly somethng else.

The hum you're referring to is probably one of two things. It's either the result of electrical interference from fluorescent lights or computer monitors or even rheostats, or it's the unavoidable hum that comes when any tube amp is cranked. I've played a fair number of amps, and never found one that's perfectly quiet at high volume levels. My HRDx is pretty close, but my Pro Junior is quite noisy. On the other hand, that hum is canceled by playing so, I figure, play lots!

As for the Champ itself, I've played through one a few times and kind of liked it. I didn't think it was as good as the AC4, but it's still a nice little amp. It would be perfect for living room playing, but it's a little loud for late nights. The AC4's 1/4 power switch is a nice touch.

I recently bought one to use as a noodling around in the living room and on the back porch amp. The little beast is GREAT at what it does. The Champion 600 sings sweet at low to mid vloume and breaks up nicely for a natural overdrive tone when cranked. A great little practice amp.

Because they own Groove Tubes. Groove Tubes is a tube supplier, not a manufacturer. They use Taiwanese power supply caps too, just because American made caps are larger and more expensive. But the American caps can last for 20 years and sometimes longer.

Doesn't the rebel 20 come with Groove tubes for their power tubes? Cause that's what it shows when I click on the rebel 20 tubes picture.

Great Amp. I found that at high volumes the speaker couldn't really handle even single coils. So I changed the speaker to a Jensen and WOW! The difference is incredible. I don't know why Fender just doesn't upgrade the stock speaker. It took me about 20 minutes for the change and it was like a new amp. Sounds great for Rock, Blues or Jazz.

Hello, I was thinking of upgrading my speaker first, did the Jensen fit straight in without mods?? Was the Jensen you got this one here: http://jensentone.com/mod6-15.php

Cheers

Yes, it was the Jensen MOD speaker. I did want to purchase the Weber but they are currently not available. No mods to the amp were involved. The speaker fit right in. You do have to pull out the amp from the cabinet. It was very easy.

A great little amp, especially with better tubes and speaker.
I use Tung-Sol tubes and a Sica/Jensen CH615-4 speaker (EU version)

Cool, I might actually buy another Champ600 to modify and compare the difference in sounds, I will possibly use a Jensen in one and a Weber in the other. I can turn my Champ600 up to volume 8.5 and then it starts to sound to beserko and harsh, at 8.5 is where I just want to turn it up to get that nice valve tone aswell. So what I will be trying to achieve is to turn the amp past 8.5 and all the way to 12 getting some nice tube breakup along the way
