Hi
I'm new to this site so hello to everyone. I recently bought a Champion 600 which I love - changed the 12AX7 tube and speaker and the sound is incredible when I play my Sheraton through it. However I recently borrowed my brother's guitar with Seymour Duncan pickups and it seems to have destroyed my amp. I was playing at full volume and there was some BAD distortion coming out of it.
There is a terrible crackling sound now, which is especially bad in the high gain channel even at low volumes. It was worse on the low strings but is getting bad whatever i play now. I've checked the tubes and they seem ok and looked at the circuit board and nothing looks bad. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
Any help would be brilliant.
Cheers
Ryan

If you can, try a different speaker. You may have killed the speaker. The 600's sound better with an external cabinet. Try a 10 or 12 in speaker. If that's not it, it's tech time. Is it still under warranty? I don't think they would cover the speaker though.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the speaker idea over the weekend but i have a feeling now that it's the tubes as i pulled out the 6V6 tube and put it back in and that seemed to clear it for a while and i was able to play for about 5 minutes before the crackling started.

Try cleaning the pins of the 6V6 and the 12AX7 and putting them back in.

+1 Do it a couple of times. A word of warning. If you try the 600 through a bigger speaker, you may never go back to the 6" speaker. That thing will just come alive with a bigger speaker. :D
