Hey there,

I recently just got the Champion 600 amp and it is excellent. I tried it against some other similiarly priced amps, which were in and around the same wattage, and the Fender blew them all away.

Anyway, I'm wondering what pedals you guys would recommend to get decent amounts of gain. Even though I'm playing house, I only have the amp turned up to about 3 or 4 as it can get pretty loud past that.

I tried various pedals - Boss Turbo Distortion, Boss Mega Distortion, TC Electronic Vintage Dual Distortion, Danelectro Fab Distortion and the Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz. To be honest, all of them sounded awful. The distortion was too artificial sounding and none of them gave me any workable tone or sustain. The only pedal that sounds amazing with this amp is the MI Audio Tube Zone. This pedal would be best described as a heavy overdrive pedal - the gain is so natural and sweet sounding and the unit is very, very sensitive to adjustment.

I'm looking for other suggestions from users of this amp to see what they use to get their gain from. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I just picked up a used Maxon OD-9. It has the same insides as an original TubeScreamer, but it has 'true bypass'. Maxon is actually the company who made the original Ibanez pedals.

This pedal can add just a bit of extra drive or a screaming crunch. I highly recommend this one without a doubt. It is my new go to OD pedal and probably will be for years to come.

Using a Boss Chorus and also a Boss Overdrive, thinking about that newer Fender Reverb pedal. I really enjoy the chorus.

I used to own a Champion 600 and found the absolute best pedal was the Boss FRD-1 65 Deluxe Reverb. The overdrive was very smooth and could be dialed in at very low volumes. The pedal also gives the Champion 600 the ability to adjust treble and bass and adds tremolo and reverb The two sounded great together. I paid $99 on eBay for the Boss. I did eventually sell the Champion 600 and the FDR-1 and bought the new Vibro Champ XD. It has more bells and whistles the the Champion 600 and for less cash. I do miss the Champion 600 as it had a sort of "majic" to it.

Hey-I put a Danelectro FAB Echo pedal in front of my amp and even though it's got limited tones you can still dial in a fake short reverb or an extended delay, the sound quality/silent operation is great; don't know if they still make 'em, got mine on closeout for $15- at Guitar Center last year. Some complaints others had revolved around the limited capabilities of this pedal but it does what IT does very well. (not an overdrive pedal)

I use a Pro Co Rat for my distortion on low watt amps.

Otherwise you can always get a hot plate so you can turn the amp up to high volumes and get a natural tube distortion from the amp while still keeping the output at a low volume.

man, the best pedal i can suggest for a tube amp is the ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive from Mxr. It isn't much of a distortion pedal, but just pushes your amp so freaking far. it doesnt affect your tone too much either.
